📣 There will be a major change to SNAP coming on October 1st!

Prior to HR-1, or the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” (OBBA), the federal government covered 100% of SNAP benefits AND SNAP administrative costs were split 50-50 between the federal and state government.

HR-1 shifted this to states taking on 15% of SNAP benefits and 75% of administrative costs.

Go to Feeding America's portal to contact Congress to delay the SNAP cost shift!

We also encourage everyone to get involved with your local mutual-aid group because we keep each other safe (and fed). Please also donate funds to a food bank, they not only have their own hunger programs but often supply food for mutual-aid groups to cook or distribute as well.

Food is a human right.

There’s something beautiful about turning tradition into community care. 🧡

After the Hungry Ghost Festival, a month long Buddhist tradition that honors deceased ancestors and wandering spirits through offerings of food, incense, and prayers. Part of the festival is dedicated to feeding the hungry ghosts who visit the physical world. After the spiritual rituals are completed, it is also customary to help nourish the community by providing food for people in need. We gathered at a Kai Yuan temple in Northeast Philadelphia to distribute food to our neighbors. We shared what we had and making sure good food found its way to the people who could use it.

From the folks packing and organizing behind the scenes to everyone who helped distribute food, this was a true community effort. These moments remind us that caring for one another is something we do together.

Grateful to everyone who made this day possible, including Rep. Sean Dougherty who joined us to hand out the food, and to the temple community for welcoming us.

Unfortunately due to the rain and wind forecasted for tomorrow, we have made the decision to postpone the festival to next Saturday. We hope to celebrate with all of you next week on the streets of Chinatown! ✨✨

The Mid-Autumn Festival is coming to Philadelphia’s Chinatown THIS Saturday! And AAU will be selling our beloved merch. Come to see our stickers, fans, shirts, pins, and more (all designed by local artists)! 🥮

We’ll also be selling, for the first time ever, the No Arena Strategy Playbook! The playbook is a collection of lessons from 16 No Arena Organizers about how to build a large scale movement that is fierce and joyful while centering relationship and solidarity above all.

The AAU Sales Tent will be in front of Zhong Gang Bakery. We’ll also be giving away free merch as part of our Celebrate Chinatown Giveaway.
