🥳🥳Voluntary Recognition for Atelier Fine Art Services Union!

Joint statement: Atelier Fine Art Services and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, District Council 47, Local 397, AFL-CIO (AFSCME) are pleased to announce that we have reached an agreement for a voluntary recognition process of a staff union at Atelier Fine Art Services. Atelier Fine Art Services and AFSCME have engaged in productive and positive conversations resulting in the voluntary recognition process and reflecting the common goal of fostering a collaborative, transparent, and respectful workplace.

Under this agreement, the Union will have the opportunity to demonstrate to a neutral third party that the majority of eligible Atelier Fine Art Services’ employees support joining Local 397. This process, called a “card check,” will allow the Union and Employer to move forward expeditiously with negotiations for a collective bargaining agreement. Both parties are committed to ensuring that this process is conducted fairly and centers the best interests of employees and the workplace as a whole…

Update on our warning to all Penn staff of Penn benefit changes: Two weeks ago we shared that University management is signaling to our unions a plan to reduce existing benefits like healthcare, retirement, and PTO that would impact ALL STAFF. At Penn Libraries where we are in active contract negotiations, Admin was seeking new language that would permit them to reduce our benefits if reduced for all staff. We are proud to announce that Penn has now withdrawn the proposed language and committed to maintaining benefit levels for the term of our contract. Yesterday, the Daily Pennsylvanian reported Penn’s changes employee healthcare plans, including an additional $100 per month charge for coverage of a working spouse. This is on top of the expensive spousal coverage employees already pay for. Unionized Penn Museum employees are fighting the change through our union contract’s grievance process.

Unfortunately, Penn can impose this and other reductions to benefits on any employees who are not unionized. As your union colleagues, we believe strongly that we all deserve the right to negotiate our benefits, as well as our pay rates and other working conditions. If you agree, join us in the Coalition of Workers at Penn at bit.ly/pennworkers

Attention all University of Pennsylvania staff: Your unionized colleagues at the Penn Libraries and Penn Museum are sounding the alarm! University management is signaling to our unions a plan to reduce existing benefits like healthcare, retirement, and PTO that would impact ALL STAFF. Peers like Princeton have already done it.

As unionized staff, we are protected from management unilaterally reducing our benefits, so we have advance notice and the ability to fight back. We intend to do so.

Non-unionized staff and faculty have no such protections. If you are Penn staff and aren’t unionized, you can resist by:
