As we celebrate Independence Day with our friends and family, our hope is that the many disabled Americans currently isolated in dangerous nursing facilities can one day enjoy these same freedoms.

Pictured below is Bernard, giving the peace sign, the day our Nursing Home Transition team helped him move into his new apartment! Welcome home, Bernard!

Please help to support our Liberty Day fundraising campaign!
Independence Day may be next week, but that's not the case for many people with disabilities stuck in dangerous nursing homes.

It can cost up to $7,000.00 to transition just one person out of an institution and into the community.

Any amount you can donate will help with these costs.
Thank you!

On January 1, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation. It was not for another 2 ½ years, on June 19, 1865, that U.S. General Gordon Granger stood on Texas soil to read General Orders No. 3: “The people of Texas are informed that, in accordance with a proclamation from the Executive of the United States, all slaves are free.” On that day, newly freed Black Texans began to celebrate, and a year later declared June 19 “Jubilee Day,” a tradition that migrated across the country until it was made a federal holiday last year on June 17, 2021.

Today, we creep just as slowly towards true equity, as racial unrest and systemic injustice still pervade our country. This Monday, as we celebrate Juneteenth, let’s also think about how we can embrace our core values and make our world and our workplace a brighter, more anti-racist place for our colleagues and ourselves.
