💙 You’re o-fish-ally my favorite.

Fisheries management relies on accurate data, and those data start with people on the water.

Sea Grant Puerto Rico researchers are working with commercial fishers across the island to document the common names, fishing gears and techniques used in today’s fisheries. This project highlights how local knowledge and scientific research complement one another.

By learning directly from fishers, this work helps improve fisheries data collection while recognizing the importance of community knowledge in fisheries management.

If you fish for gag grouper, your on-the-water experience matters.

Scientists are conducting a stock assessment, and your firsthand observations can help provide important context. What are you seeing out there? Changes in abundance? Size? Locations? Timing?

Buckeye Reef Monitoring - August 16
Conditions were great but not that much the bottom visibility. However, artificial reefs at Buckeye are thriving with abundance of sportfish, including Gag groupers, Red groupers, Hogfish, Gray snappers, Spadefish, Cobias, and giant Goliath Groupers!
Thanks to the group of volunteer divers and volunteer boats who made it possible! The Super tower on site 2 was still standing, but a couple of the smaller pyramids tipped over... A total of 8 boats were fishing Buckeye that day during the monitoring...
