Registration is officially OPEN for the BYTA 2026 Conference: 10 Years, Still Rising!

Join us in celebrating a decade of community, growth, leadership, and impact as we confidently step into a new chapter of how we gather, learn, and rise together.

This year’s conference theme is Rooted in Community. Grounded in Care.

Over four inspiring days, participants will engage in thoughtfully curated programming exploring: Yoga Therapy, Teaching Methodology & Embodiment, Meditation & Dharma, and the Business of Yoga.

Led by Black yoga teachers, practitioners, and wellness leaders, the BYTA 2026 Conference provides space for continuing education, professional growth, connection, reflection, and renewal.

Come celebrate 10 years of BYTA with us! We are still rising!

Black Yoga Teachers Alliance (BYTA) honors the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., whose leadership in the Civil Rights Movement was rooted in the radical, disciplined practice of nonviolence.

In yoga, this principle is called ahimsa, the vow to cause no harm in thought, word, or action. BYTA firmly adheres to ahimsa as the only clear path to personal and collective peace.

Dr. King didn't just speak about peace; he lived it. His work reminds us that nonviolence isn't passive. It's brave, purposeful, and transformative. It's a spiritual practice shown through social action.

To enhance your understanding of this lineage, we invite you to watch

We invite you to join us in practicing as we carry on this legacy of embodied justice and healing.

Yoga is not separate from liberation.
Ahimsa is not theoretical.
The work continues—on the mat and in the world.

Support Alzheimer’s Research — Our Future Depends on It!

Alzheimer’s is one of the fastest-growing diseases in the U.S., and it disproportionately impacts Black and other nonwhite communities. One of the biggest risk factors? Age. That means Baby Boomers and Gen Xers, this concerns us now more than ever.

Let’s support the research that’s working to prevent, treat, and one day cure this devastating disease. Your donation could help change someone’s life — maybe even your own.

I don’t often get to present at BYTA events; I’m usually behind the scenes making it all happen.

But when a presenter had to step down last minute, I stepped in.

What a gift it turned out to be.

Sharing the niyamas in this space was an honor. The teaching was solid, grounded, and deeply meaningful, and it reminded me why this work matters.

It was truly an honor and a privilege to stand alongside a wise, seasoned, and committed group of presenters.
I’m so proud of the knowledge, clarity, and care each one brought to the space.

What a team. What a weekend. What a blessing.

Every big BYTA gathering calls for our “family photo”! We just wrapped up another powerful Yoga as a Peace Practice® weekend, and the joy was undeniable. Sankofa Yoga & Wellness Center radiated with good vibes from the start, and together we filled it with even more love, peace, and happiness. A beautiful reminder of what it means to live fully, openly, and human.

We’re honored to share that Alliance is sponsoring Yoga as a Peace Practice® in 2025. Thanks to their generous partnership, Black Yoga Teachers Alliance can expand access to our flagship program this October in the DMV.

Yoga as a Peace Practice® is a contemplative, restorative, community-rooted experience designed for people navigating the stress of daily life, work, and change — especially those working at the intersection of wellness, advocacy, and service.

Because of Yoga Alliance’s support:
• We offered fee waivers to BYTA members and supporters facing financial hardship.
• We will offer refreshments and meals to participants.
• We extended the early-bird registration deadline.

We sincerely appreciate this collective dedication to accessible, transformative, and culturally rooted yoga practice.

Now, it's time to gather!
