The Pemberville Public Library System serves the Eastwood School District with three locations: Pemberville, Luckey, and Stony Ridge. Here are some additional photos from Remarkable Raptors with Back to the Wild this week.

I really need to take this opportunity to give shout-outs to my excellent group of Volunteens who transitioned our spaces from the Fossils and Footprints morning programs to the Performance space set-up in the afternoon, and then back to our normal library set-up. It really is an incredible amount of work and they make it an example of speed and efficiency every time.

Tremendous thank yous to Aurora, Evelyn P, Evelyn U, Kizzey, Madison, Matthew, Nash, Riley, and Ruby. ( I know there was another new helpful Volunteen at the afternoon session, but I am unsure of their name!😦)

Meet in the Middle for May met at the Luckey Branch Library and the program was making paracord bracelets.

This was a fun project and our participants really got the hang of the knotting process.

Wednesday, June 24, Meet in the Middle will be making patriotic tin lanterns.

Wednesday July 22, we will be trying our hand at weaving retro potholders with a loom. (We are in need of loops and looms if anyone has any they would like to donate.)

This week we made these cute reversible bucket hats.

Next Sew What! is Tuesday, July 21 at Stony Ridge Branch Library.

The July project will be making bandana drawstring bags. Participants need to bring 2 different colored bandanas for this session.

The Fossils and Footprints Workshop was held at all three locations this week. Participants made their own fossils using clay and plaster of paris, did a "Cookie Excavation" to demonstrate how fossils are found in rocks, and used our walking stamps to make dinosaur track paintings.

The Cardboard Self-portrait challenge was Monday, June 15 at the Pemberville Library.

Probably our biggest challenge with this one was looking at different aspects of the portraits we were attempting. We began with looking at the shape of our face, then the size, shape and placement of our nose, eyes, eyebrows, mouth and any accessories like earrings or glasses.

Also...cutting cardboard, even lighter cardboard is not super easy.
I think our participants actually did a great job!

The Box of Chocolates Art Challenge is Monday, June 22 at 6:30 pm. There are still spaces available for students entering grades 5-8 in the fall.

Remarkable Raptors! was Wednesday June 17 at 1:30 pm. Back to the Wild wildlife rescue and education brought five beautiful birds to the Pemberville Public Library.

The five education animals were a Red-Tailed Hawk, a Great Horned Owl, a Barred Owl, a Screech Owl, and a Barn Owl. We asked for a visit from Raptors specifically because birds are now recognized as the closest living relatives of dinosaurs.

Our very large crowd showed great self-control as we had to be quiet so as not to scare the animals. It felt weird to not be able to clap in appreciation! Thank you Back to the Wild for this visit, and for everything you do to help wildlife in our area.

Scarves and the Parachute are the special play features for tomorrow's (Thursday June 18) Learn+Play Storytime at 11:00 a.m.

This storytime is for our youngest customers, babies, toddlers and preschoolers who are accompanied by a parent or caregiver. This is an active storytime with lots of movement, singing, and fingerplays. No registration is necessary.

Ready for Raptors!

Back to the Wild will be at the Pemberville Public Library today, Wednesday, June 17 at 1:30 with four of their beautiful education birds.

This program is free, open to the public, and appropriate for all ages. We hope to see you here!
