With heavy hearts, we join the Garner family and our entire Bridge community in mourning the loss of Gary Garner, affectionately known to so many as “Donald Duck,” who passed away on May 13.
For 25 years, Gary faithfully served as a contractor for The Bridge Over Troubled Waters, Inc. , but to those who knew him, he was far more than someone who repaired buildings or fixed what was broken. Gary was part of the heart of this organization. He viewed his work as a calling and took immense pride in creating safe, welcoming spaces for survivors, children, and families walking through our doors.
Many will remember the sound of laughter echoing through the hallways as Gary would imitate Donald Duck while greeting children and staff. His playful spirit, warm heart, and joyful presence brought light even on difficult days. He had a special way of making people smile, reminding us all that kindness and joy matter deeply in the healing process.
Gary’s legacy lives on in every repaired door, every cared-for space, every child he made laugh, and every life he quietly touched through his service. His dedication to the mission of The Bridge was unwavering, and his absence will be profoundly felt throughout our community.
We extend our deepest prayers and condolences to Gary’s family, loved ones, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
The family warmly invites any past or present employees who would like to honor Gary’s memory to attend his memorial service on Friday, May 22nd at 7:00 PM at Lakewood Church.
Rest well, Gary. Thank you for the joy, the laughter, and the love you poured into this place for so many years.
