🖤❤️💚 Juneteenth Facts 💚❤️🖤

Juneteenth marks June 19, 1865, when news of emancipation finally reached many enslaved people in Texas.

The first Juneteenth celebrations began as early as 1866.

Red foods and drinks are a Juneteenth tradition, symbolizing resilience, sacrifice, and cultural heritage.

Juneteenth became a federal holiday in 2021.

Understanding our shared past helps us better understand our present, and shape our future!

Black history is American history.

KINFOLK HOMESCHOOL CO-OP | LIMITED OPENINGS FOR 2026-27

As we prepare for the upcoming school year, we have a limited number of openings remaining in the following age groups:

✨ Rising 5th-6th Graders: 2 openings
✨ Rising 7th-8th Graders: 1 opening
✨ Rising 10th-12th Graders: 3 openings

At this time, enrollment for students in 3rd grade and below is full.

Kinfolk is a secular homeschool cooperative built on community, collaboration, and culturally affirming learning experiences. We are located in Parkville, MD and offer engaging classes, meaningful connections, and opportunities for both students and parents to learn and grow together.

After submitting the form, eligible families will be invited to schedule a one-on-one virtual enrollment conversation to learn more about Kinfolk, ask questions, and explore whether our community may be a good fit for their homeschool journey.

Because Kinfolk is a cooperative community and enrollment is limited, these conversations are a very important part of our enrollment process.

And just like that, Kinfolk's first school year has come to an end!

This year was filled with learning, laughter, friendships, field trips, challenges, growth, and so many unforgettable memories.

Thank you to every family, volunteer, teacher, supporter, and friend who helped make this year possible. Kinfolk would not exist without the people who continue to believe in what we're building together.

Please keep an eye on this page throughout the summer for updates, fundraising events, and other opportunities to support our growing community.

Thank you again for being part of our village. Have a wonderful summer, and we'll see you in the fall!

Did you know that the first Memorial Day observance was organized by formerly enslaved Black Americans and Black Union soldiers in Charleston, South Carolina on May 1, 1865?

After the Civil War, they exhumed Union prisoners of war from a mass grave and gave them proper individual burials before holding a massive procession where thousands gathered to sing, march, and decorate the graves with flowers.

This event is widely recognized by historians as the first Memorial Day commemoration in American history.

Black history is American history.

Our last field trip of the year was a chilly morning spent at the Harford Waste Disposal Center ♻️

We learned about landfills, the recycling process, what can and cannot be recycled, and so much more. It was a great reminder that even small choices can make a big difference for our planet 🌎

This week, our co-op spent a beautiful Monday at Holt Park & Center for the Arts 🌳

We met some amazing animal friends, including a corn snake, a gecko, and a box turtle, went on a nature hike to explore local flora and fauna, and enjoyed songs and games together in the sunshine.

Huge thank you to the rangers at Holt for such a fun and engaging experience. We had a great time!

Spots in our co-op are limited, and we’re intentional about enrollment to ensure a strong community fit and a balanced mix of age groups. We’re open to all ages, but we’re especially looking to welcome 6th graders and upper high school students (10th–12th).

Happy Earth Month 🌱

This week, instead of our regular classes, we had a community day for our Kinfolk family!

The students played Earth Day trivia, learned some fun facts about our planet, got their hands dirty planting tomato plants to take home, and ended the day with The Lorax (which was right on theme whether they realized it or not 🙃).

Today, our co-op community came together in the spirit of care and service to assemble care kits for neighbors in need. 💛

These kits will be donated to the Bmore Community Fridge & Pantry Network, helping to provide warmth, dignity, and a little extra comfort to members of our community this month.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to serve together and to remind our children that kindness, compassion, and collective care matter. Wishing everyone a wonderful week ahead!
