After a really heavy weather week for our community, we are especially grateful that tomorrow is expected to bring some sunshine and a chance to gather together. 🌿

The Lamar County Master Gardeners Annual Plant Sale is happening tomorrow at the Paris Farmers Market, and we would love to see you there.

📍 Market Square Farmers Market
400 1st St SW, Paris, TX 75460
🗓️ Saturday, May 2nd
⏰ 8 AM to 1 PM

Come pick out something pretty for your porch, something useful for your garden, or something you absolutely did not plan to buy but somehow need anyway. The Farmers Market will be open too, so it’s a sweet way to support local, visit with neighbors, and enjoy a little bit of normal after a hard week.

Hope to see you there. 🌸🌱

Hey friends, we have cancelled tomorrow night’s FREE Gardening Class: Canning & Food Preservation because the roads are icy and we don’t want anyone out in that.

This event is cancelled and won’t be rescheduled, but we really appreciate everyone who planned to come.

Please stay warm, stay safe, and if you need anything, just message us! 💚💙

Most of us have the home stuff down by now, drip the faucets, charge the devices, stock the snacks...

BUT your plants do not get a weather alert.

Here are a few simple ways to help protect your landscape and garden during this weekend's ice storm:

🌿 Cover tender plants with frost cloth, sheets, or blankets, and let the cover reach the ground to help hold in warmth.
🌿 Avoid plastic directly on leaves. If you use plastic, keep it off the foliage with stakes or a frame.
🌿 Move potted plants into the garage or a protected spot close to the house if you can.
🌿 After the storm, wait to prune until you can clearly see what recovers.

If you comment with what you’re worried about (citrus, tropicals, roses, veggies), we can help you decide what’s worth covering and what can ride it out.

Most of all, we’re wishing you a safe weekend. Stay home if you can, stay warm, and stay safe. ❄️💛

November can be prime planting time in Lamar County. Cooler soil temps help roots take off and set you up for spring success. Plant trees, shrubs, and hardy perennials now. Add cool-season color like pansies, violas, snaps, and ornamental kale. In veggie beds, get garlic in and tuck in leafy greens with row cover on frosty nights. Mulch 2–3", shred your leaves, water before a hard freeze, and switch irrigation controllers to OFF on rainy weeks.

Questions about what to plant? Drop them in the comments and our volunteers will help.

Quick checklist
• Plant: trees, shrubs, hardy perennials
• Color: pansies, violas, snapdragons, ornamental kale
• Veggies: garlic now; spinach, lettuce, kale with protection
• Bulbs: daffodils now; chill tulips 6–10 weeks first
• Care: 2–3" mulch, shredded leaves, water before freeze, disconnect hoses
