Plenty more radios and batteries available! Come on down.

Residents can receive a free weather radio on Saturday, May 16, during a pop-up, drive-through event at the Sarpy County campus.

NOAA weather radios are an important safety tool during severe weather. They broadcast official Weather Service warnings, watches, forecasts and other hazard information 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Roughly 600 radios will be available at the county’s main campus, 1210 Golden Gate Drive in Papillion. The event starts at 11 a.m. and is first come, first served. Please enter the east parking lot using the entrance on Golden Gate Drive.

Radios are provided by Midland USA in partnership with Hall Enterprises.

Service in action 🇺🇸

This weekend, Scouts and VFW members came together for a “Trash the Trash” and VFW Day of Service at Tara Hills Park—proving that impact happens when generations serve side by side.

Together, they collected over ten pounds of trash, helping restore and protect a shared community space.

It’s more than cleanup—it’s leadership, stewardship, and a commitment to something bigger than ourselves.

Funeral services for Master Sgt. Noah Tietjens will be held on Saturday, March 28, at 10:00 a.m. at Bellevue Christian Center in Bellevue. Following the service, the City of Bellevue encourages members of the Bellevue/Offutt community to line the procession route as a show of unity, respect, and gratitude in honor of a true American hero.

The Bellevue Police Department will lead the funeral procession from Bellevue Christian Center (1400 Harvell Drive), traveling west on Harvell Drive to Cornhusker Road, then continuing onto the Kennedy Freeway towards Omaha at the on-ramp just past 15th Street and Cornhusker to his final resting place at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

The procession is expected to begin between 11:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. The route following the service is shown in dark blue/purple on the attached map.

Residents are encouraged to safely gather along the route to show their patriotism and support for Master Sgt. Tietjens and his family.

Let us come together as a community to honor Master Sgt. Tietjens’ service, sacrifice, and legacy.

There are some stories that entertain…and then there are stories that honor.

Sheepdog is the latter.

Gratitude to the director, , and actors such as , who invested their time, energy, and heart into telling the authentic story of our nation’s heroes across the eras. Not the Hollywood version. The human version. The one veterans and their families recognize immediately because it feels real.

These storytellers do something incredibly powerful: they create a bridge.

A bridge between the public and the lived experience of those who have served. A bridge that helps veterans feel seen. A bridge that helps families feel understood.

And on the other side of that bridge are veteran service organizations—quietly, steadily continuing the work long after the credits roll.

Because awareness is where connection begins. And connection is how we reach more veterans and families who may not yet know support is available.

To the team behind Sheepdog: thank you for telling the story with care, authenticity, and respect. Your work helps us do ours.

It was a profound honor for our VFW members to represent us at last month’s Operation Stand Down. Being there for our brothers and sisters, looking them in the eye, and providing essentials like a new pair of boots…that is what “Still Serving” means to us.

We are one family, and we never leave anyone behind.

The Post-9/11 GI Bill changed lives, helping millions of veterans earn degrees and launch new careers. But the book stipend that helps them afford textbooks and supplies hasn’t been adjusted since 2009.

That means every year, student veterans lose ground to inflation. Textbooks, lab equipment, and online materials now cost far more than the $1,000 annual stipend provides. A recent Student Veterans of America survey found that nearly half of student veterans must pay out of pocket or go without required materials.

Congress can fix this. H.R.1965, Veteran Education Assistance Adjustment Act, would adjust the book stipend to $1,400 and tie future increases to inflation, ensuring this vital benefit keeps pace with the real cost of education.

This bill has strong bipartisan support, but it needs more cosponsors to move forward. Every call, every email, every voice counts.

Our veterans earned this benefit through honorable service. They shouldn’t have to choose between buying books and paying bills.

👉 Tell your representative: Support and cosponsor H.R.1965 today.
