A well-deserved recognition for the President of our FRF Papillion Chapter! Congratulations, John!
During last night's Omaha Professional Fire Fighters union meeting, John Glesinger - pictured center in the blue shirt - was given the Local 385 Executive Leadership Award. This award was a long-time coming and absolutely deserving!
Glesinger was hired on as a fire fighter in 1984 and retired in 2009, but in addition to being a fire fighter, near the end of his career he became our union hall manager - a job he has continued into retirement.
While our union hall is a gathering place for our members and where our union meetings are held, it's also rented out to the public for special events in others' lives - weddings, birthdays, funeral receptions, etc. And John is there to make sure the hall is perfect for everyone. 6 a.m. after a snowstorm? John is there shoveling. 2 a.m. following a raucous wedding reception when there's an event the next morning? John's there cleaning. This guy works harder than anyone to ensure our hall looks great than anybody, and he does it all humbly and without any expectation of thanks - exactly the same as he worked his entire career as a fire fighter (and eventually captain) serving the citizens of Omaha.
Thank you, John, for your work as a union fire fighter and as our hall manager! You're a guy we should all aspire to imitate with our careers, and there is nobody more deserving of our Local 385 Executive Leadership Award!
