Avalanche Water Systems came to Monumental Impact for prototyping support for its new AdaptiveDrip product. (Shout out to Paolo from Stampdt for the referral!)

Our talented members, Jacqueline and Mason, stepped up to take on the project, working within the customer's time-frame to help move the concept into a physical prototype, and delivering it to a satisfied customer.

What is competitive robotics? 🤖

If you hear “robotics competition” and immediately think of BattleBots, you’re not entirely wrong…but there’s another kind of competition happening on the field.

In competitive robotics, teams design, build, and program robots to solve a specific challenge. Instead of trying to destroy another robot, the goal might be to score points, navigate an obstacle, sort objects, or complete a series of tasks.

That creates a very different kind of engineering challenge.

The robot has to be precise, strategic, and sometimes autonomous, using sensors, vision, and code to make decisions on its own. And on competition day, teams are problem-solving under pressure, adapting their strategies, working with alliance partners, and figuring out how to get the most out of a machine they've spent months designing.

It’s a hands-on way to explore engineering, programming, math, and technology while developing skills that translate far beyond the competition field , including teamwork, communication, project management, and critical thinking.

As summer comes to an end, we’d like to offer a massive THANK YOU to our 13 summer interns! We’re sad to say goodbye, but incredibly grateful for the time, energy, and skills they brought to Monumental Impact.

This summer, our interns had the opportunity to work on real projects, develop technical and professional skills, and contribute directly to our community.

Our high school interns:
Dana Chang, Felix Chavez, Simon Hankins, Preston King, Anthony Lee, and Alaska Shaw

Our college interns:
Nicholas Gallo, Braden Hinkle, Kevin Lester, Asaiah Savelkoul, Jacqueline Steffens, Mason Torres, and Andrew Welsh

Our interns contributed in a wide range of ways: from planning and organizing our booth for the July 4th Street Fair, to helping launch our first collection of Made @ Monumental Impact products through an online catalog, to using their technical knowledge to help community members bring their own projects to life.

This summer’s interns brought with them connections to schools, universities, and community organizations across the region, including Pikes Peak Business & Education Alliance, Lewis-Palmer School District 38, Academy School District 20, Colorado Springs School District 11, District 49, Colorado Early Colleges, University of Colorado Colorado Springs, Colorado Technical University, Baylor University, Boston College, and IBEW Local 113.

Thank you to all of our interns and partners for helping make this summer such a meaningful one at Monumental Impact. We’re proud of what this group accomplished and excited to see where they take the skills and experiences they gained here!

🤖 What is competitive robotics?

For Corey, captain of Monumental Impact’s Bionic Sharks, it means designing and programming robots, driving them in competition, solving problems, leading a team, and helping run the organization behind it all.

The Bionic Sharks compete in FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC), where teams take on a new game and challenge each season. Students design, build, and program their robot, then test and adapt their solutions through competition.

But FTC is also a student-run engineering organization. Students take on roles in engineering, coding, design, strategy, marketing, outreach, event planning, fundraising, and more.

Internships can be…intimidating. At Monumental Impact, we try to make our internships fun and welcoming, with plenty of opportunities to grow, learn, and make an impact.

Hear from two of our summer interns, Dana and Kevin, about their experience:

Dana, a rising sophomore at Air Academy High School, hoped to learn more about how a business works. Kevin, a rising junior studying electrical and computer engineering at Baylor University, wanted to gain more experience in his field outside of the classroom.

What drew both Dana and Kevin to Monumental Impact was the opportunity to work with a small, local business that has a real impact on the community they grew up in.

And in their time with us, they made an impact of their own!

Dana helped plan and organize our booth for the July 4th Street Fair and was instrumental in implementing our first collection of Made @ Monumental Impact products through an online catalog.

Kevin used his technical knowledge to help community members incorporate LEDs into their projects, developing a modular system that members can now use in their own designs.

When asked if they’d recommend Monumental Impact to friends, family, or anyone else, they responded with a resounding “yes.”

One year ago, Monumental Impact opened the doors to our Palmer Lake makerspace, marking an exciting new chapter for our organization.

Moving into this space allowed us to expand into a true community makerspace, welcoming high school students, college students, adults, and elder adults to explore, create, learn, and build together.

Now, we're celebrating that milestone with an anniversary ribbon cutting, and we'd love for you to join us!

Whether you've been part of Monumental Impact from the beginning or you've been curious about what happens inside a makerspace, we’d love for you to stop by. Tour the space, discover collaborations happening, and learn how you can get involved through membership, volunteering, mentoring, or partnership.

We'll also have products on display from our 1st Collection from our Made @ Monumental Impact Entrepreneurship program.

This celebration is for everyone who has helped shape this community, and everyone who wants to be part of what comes next!

Join us this Saturday at the Tri-Lakes Smokin' Showdown & Palmer Lake Paddle and discover what our makers have been creating.

This summer, 13 high school and college interns dedicated 820 hours to designing and building new unique products through Made @ Monumental Impact.

Their work reflects months of creativity, problem-solving, and hands-on learning as they explored what it takes to turn an idea into a product ready for the marketplace.

Stop by our booth to browse one-of-a-kind creations, including:

• A special Palmer Lake troll plaque
• Tabletop gaming kits
• An LED kit for artists
• A Robotics Starter Kit
• AI artwork
• And much more!

You'll also find creative products made and donated by Monumental Impact members, 41 products in total.

Meet Melissa, a new member who is already making an impact. ✨

After spending eight years in Uganda working with educational nonprofits, she discovered makerspaces while pursuing her Master’s degree at the University of Pennsylvania. That experience gave her a place to explore her love of creating, something she has continued at Monumental Impact.

In her years as a maker, Melissa has created everything from jewelry to an ostrich egg lamp to a hamster toilet paper holder. 🐹 She’s excited to continue creating at Monumental Impact, building community and supporting other makers, and also exploring the entrepreneurial side of making and what it takes to turn creative ideas into products.

We’re proud to be a place where people experiment, build community, and turn their curiosity into something real. 💙

Sharing a little of what our Makerspace members have been exploring together! ✨

During last week's 3D Printing Techniques workshop, members explored how to print directly onto fabric, opening up exciting possibilities for costumes, wearable art, home décor, custom branding, and more.

This was just a test piece, but that's part of the fun: experimenting, learning new skills, and discovering what's possible when creativity meets technology.
