With a lawsuit’s defendants sitting with their plaintiff and an alleged harasser sitting with an accuser, the Board of Trustees meeting in Palmer Lake Thursday night was as fraught as one might imagine.

“I think we’re at a crossroads here, and everyone can feel it,” said Trustee Tony Beltran.

With the resignation of the town’s latest attorney, Kent Whitmer of JVAM Law, came an invoice for nearly $65,000 in legal fees presented at the meeting. Whitmer represented the town for less than two months before resigning over the town’s “strife and turmoil,” according to a statement. Some trustees contested the expenses and asked for more information.

The town’s legal troubles don’t end with representation. In May, Trustee Roger Moseley filed his third lawsuit against the town board on which he currently serves, two days after Whitmer’s resignation.

In the latest filing, Moseley claims the town withheld information he was entitled to regarding a harassment investigation into his alleged conduct toward town employees. 🔗 Read more: https://buff.ly/Ligf88a

Thanks to all the amazing volunteers who participated in our park cleanup service day on Saturday! We picked up trash, cleared deadwood from the creek, spread wood chips on the playground and generally made our parks ready for the summer. Thank you all for making this community great!

Businesses who support our Town directly are our favorite! Dead Flowers MJ has supported the FD since their first day here! They had custom bunks made for the fire house when they needed them most years ago!

And, they are still pouring the love (& revenue) into our Town!!!

Dead Flowers would like to publicly thank all of those involved in making our 5th Annual Car Show benefitting Palmer Lake Firefighters Association such an incredible success!

It took us a day to catch up to ourselves after that! haha

What a magnificent day it was. The weather was amazing, the cars were out of this world! The best part though? Seeing a community of people coming together for a family-friendly event for one common goal!

Open Meeting Law and Executive Sessions….

If the citizens understand the rules, it adds a level of accountability, and will hopefully encourage those who are serving to seek more knowledge about their commitment to the public, too.

Citizens who know the rules can see that things are not how they should be.

Newly appointed Trustees may not understand that they can be held individually liable for decisions they make, so they each should make sure they make decisions that are in the BEST INTEREST of the PUBLIC…AND, the TOWN STAFF!!!
