Tackle Hunger V kicks off today! 🏈🥫

Local schools are are competing to see who can collect the most non-perishable food donations, all to support neighbors facing hunger right here in our community. The goal is to collect more than 55,000 lbs. of food for local families in need!

Saint Louis County made it official: Sept. 4 is now Operation Food Search Day! Dr. Kanika A. Cunningham and Kevin McKenna presented the proclamation on behalf of County Executive Sam Page, honoring more than 45 years of work to fight hunger across our region. Representing OFS, Executive Board member Dara Webb accepted the honor.

Sept. 4 also marks National Food Bank Day, a nationwide celebration of food banks and the people behind them. To County Executive Page, and to every volunteer, partner, and neighbor who shows up for this work: thank you.

Today, the City of St. Louis officially proclaimed Sept. 4 Operation Food Search Day! Mayor Cara Spencer signed the proclamation, recognizing more than 45 years of hunger relief work in our community. OFS Executive Board member Gordon Reel received the proclamation on behalf of OFS.

Sept. 4 is also National Food Bank Day, a moment to celebrate food banks nationwide and the neighbors, volunteers, and partners who make this work possible. Thank you, Mayor Spencer, and thank you to everyone who shows up for our community every day.

Sept. 4 is officially Operation Food Search Day in the City and County of St. Louis, proclaimed by Mayor Cara Spencer and County Executive Sam Page in honor of National Food Bank Day.

We're grateful for the recognition — and we're using it to spotlight why our work remains so urgent: 1 in 6 children in our service area face food insecurity, and 86% of SNAP households include at least one working adult.

Hunger isn't always visible, and it doesn't stop at a ZIP code. Thank you to everyone working alongside us toward a future where every neighbor has access to the food they need to thrive.

OFS served 55,464 summer meals this year with the help of our amazing partners and supporters! Now, as we transition back to school, we expect to provide a similar number of after-school meals. Our Operation Backpack program has an even greater reach, with nearly 689,000 meals provided last year. Fresh, local food for local families. Neighbors helping neighbors. Thank you, Three Rivers Community Farm! 🥬🍅💚

This year, Three Rivers Community Farm donated an incredible 3,895 pounds of fresh produce, including kale, cabbage, potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, lettuce, and broccoli, grown on their 8-acre vegetable farm in Elsah, IL, using organic growing practices. Their generous donation helps bring fresh, locally grown food to the tables of families throughout our region.

❤️ We're also grateful to the volunteers who dedicated their time and energy to glean these crops and help make this donation possible.

Keep the goodness growing! 🌱 You can support Three Rivers by shopping at their stand at the Tower Grove Farmers' Market every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Made with plain Greek yogurt, this lighter Alfredo-style sauce adds protein and flavor using simple ingredients you may already have on hand. It's an easy, budget-friendly meal for lunch or dinner.

Ingredients:
1 cup Plain Greek yogurt
1 cup Parmesan (best grated from the block)
1 Tbsp. Butter, unsalted
3 Garlic cloves
1 tsp. Italian Seasoning
1 tsp. Parsley, dried
Salt, to taste
1 lb. Fettuccine pasta

Customize the dish with your favorite seasonal produce and protein (like zucchini and chicken) for an even more wholesome meal.
