Oswego Youth Tackle Football is District 308’s largest and longest tenured youth sports program. OYTF, as it is commonly referred to, is celebrating 44 years of youth football in the 2023 season. OYTF has been a part of the Oswego community for so long, we explore the history and stories from past members of this program. OHS Varsity Football Coach in late 70’s, Glen Posmer, wanted to create a bet

ter high school football program. Little did he know that Oswego parents were getting together to make his vision a reality by creating a youth tackle football program for 7th and 8th graders. Boulder Hill residents Bob Smith and Jim Sissom walked into Bob Tripp’s Insurance office looking for insurance to cover a youth tackle program and get it off ground. Bob Tripp agreed that a youth football program was long overdue and drew up the insurance for 1st year and wanted to be involved. These 3 gentlemen along with Bill Carey and Doc Ervin were some of the few men responsible for the first years of OYTF. In 1979, OYTF started with 46, 7th and 8th grade football registrants. There were no Orange, Blue, White, or Silver teams when the league started. The original 46 players didn’t have any helmets, shoulder pads or shoes. Bob Tripp contacted Dick Hayden of Hayden sports and told him about the new football program in Oswego and their need for equipment. Dick Hayden was impressed by the effort and told Bob to have the boys be at the field on a Saturday and Hayden sports will have people out there to size up the boys and have them pay him when they can. This page keeps everyone up to date on everything currently going on with OYTF

Good morning OYTF Families!
We are excited to see you for the parade tomorrow.

We have been given specific instructions by the park district for drop off so that we do not impact parade check-in, parade routes or the through/traffic that is happening before the parade begins.

If you are dropping off your athlete to walk with us in the parade, please drop off as Ashland St. & Polk St. Your athlete will be able to walk down Polk directly to where our group will be.

We will also station some of the adults helping before the parade at Franklin and Polk to usher your athlete to us.

Thank you in advance for following these instructions.

(Please see marked spot in purple, for drop off below)

SUNDAY is PARADE DAY! 🐾

We are excited to see those of you walking with us in the Prairie Fest Parade on Sunday, June 21.
This is a fun opportunity to represent our program, connect with teammates, and show our community what OYTF is all about!

PARADE DETAILS;
OYTF Parade Position: #33 (see map attached to this email)
Meet-Up Time: Beginning at 11:30 AM
Meet-Up Location: Along the side of the 308 Building off Franklin Street
Parade Start Time: 12:00 PM

Important Information
Show your Panther pride! Athletes and families are encouraged to wear their OYTF gear or anything orange and blue.
We will have trucks and trailer beds available, generously donated by Sinnott Landscaping. Space is limited, so some participants will need to walk, and some of our older athletes may be asked to help hand out candy along the route.
If your athlete plans to ride on a trailer, we recommend bringing a towel to sit on, as the trailer beds can become warm in the sun.
*If bringing a water bottle, please make sure it is clearly labeled with your athlete's name.

Please leave unnecessary items at home, as we will not have a secure place to store personal belongings.

All individuals attending are asked to be respectful of the trucks being donated and to pick up after themselves.

PARENT PICK-UP
All athletes must be picked up by a parent or guardian at the conclusion of the parade. The parade will end at the 308 Building, right where we started. Please plan accordingly and help us ensure a safe and smooth end to the event for everyone.

CANDY DONATIONS NEEDED
We are still collecting candy donations for the parade! If you would like to contribute, please sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0E45ACA928A4F5C43-64125290-join
