TEDxOshkosh began in 2016, and has put on an annual event each year, excepting 2020, when the event was cancelled due to the pandemic. TEDxOshkosh is planned, organized and executed by a local group of dedicated and passionate volunteers operating under license from the TED organization. TEDxOshkosh Talk Videos
Just as are TED Talks, TEDxOshkosh talks are placed online for peopl

e throughout the world to explore. You can search for them on the main TEDx YouTube channel, or find playlists for each year of TEDxOshkosh at our playlist: YouTube.com/ . You can learn more about upcoming events, and register to attend at our Web site: TEDxOshkosh.com . About the TEDx Program of TED
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.) About TED
TED is on a mission to discover and spread ideas that spark imagination, embrace possibility and catalyze impact. Our organization is devoted to curiosity, reason, wonder and the pursuit of knowledge — without an agenda. We welcome people from every discipline and culture who seek a deeper understanding of the world and connection with others, and we invite everyone to engage with ideas and activate them in your community. TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, but today it spans a multitude of worldwide communities and initiatives exploring everything from science and business to education, arts and global issues. In addition to the hundreds of TED Talks curated from our annual conferences and published on TED.com, we produce original podcasts, short video series, animated educational lessons (TED-Ed) and TV programs that are translated into more than 100 languages and distributed via partnerships around the world. Each year, more than 3,000 independently run TEDx events (www.ted.com/about/programs-initiatives/tedx-program) bring people together to share ideas and bridge divides in communities on every continent. Through the Audacious Project, TED has helped catalyze more than $3 billion in funding for projects that seek to make the world more beautiful, sustainable and just. In 2020, TED launched Countdown, an initiative to accelerate solutions to the climate crisis and mobilize a movement for a net-zero future. Our aim is to help create a future worth pursuing for all.

: Who was the very first person to deliver a talk on the red circle carpet?

It was UW Oshkosh Business School professor Dale Feinauer with a rather contrarian take about disagreement: "Conflict is a Good Thing" https://youtu.be/TF38pGE7GBg. It's well worth a watch, and draws conclusions you might not expect.

Plan to join TEDxOshkosh for a 10th year, LIVE on OCTOBER 31!

: has had 118 people on the famous red circle... and one dog! In 2022, Oshkosh Police Officer Scott Sopata was joined by his working mental health therapy dog Magic when he gave a fascinating talk entitled, "Support-and-Comfort: A New Form of K9 Policing" about adding therapy dogs to police work. It's really worth a watch!

This week's goes the distance. 😊 Which speaker traveled the farthest distance to speak?

It was 2021 speaker Madeleine Pape, who is both an Olympic athlete and holds a PhD in Sociology. She traveled to Oshkosh from her current home in Lausanne, Switzerland (she was finishing her PhD at UW Madison when we started talking to her in 2019).

Her talk, "How do we Decide Who Competes in Women’s Sport?", as she put it, openly raises as many questions as it does answers, on a topic that finds a wide variety of conflicting perspectives and opinions. https://youtu.be/34QHk0jYFSA

is getting closer to upcoming mid-June announcements of speakers for our milestone 10th year, and our hard-working speaker-selection team is really jazzed about the 20 candidates selected from a starting pool of 452(!) From this smaller group, we'll select between 12 and 16 for the red dot.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR for TEDxOshkosh on Oct 31. You won't want to miss it.

: It all started at this table in downtown Oshkosh! In January 2016, three people sat here and had the first discussion about an idea that would launch in October of that year as the annual event.

Ever wanted to know how it got started? Watch an interview with two of the co-founders, and get the inside scoop! https://youtu.be/MybZoIB2tDc.

Our question this week is, who was the youngest person to give a talk (so far 😊)?

It was 16 year-old Kiran Loewenstein (she'd obtained her driver's license just months before) with an insightful talk about women entering traditionally-male professions. Check out "Robots, Engineering and Me - A Young Woman’s Perspective": https://youtu.be/oyQOVD8RqxY

's focus today is a scroll through set designs over the years. While TEDx talks are all about what's said, it's been a lot of fun to build creative spaces for our speakers to present. Check them out!

How competitive is it to land a spot on the red dot at TEDxOshkosh?

We'll let the numbers speak for themselves: in the first 9 years of TEDxOshkosh, we selected 118 speakers... from approximately 2,675 candidates! It's a big task for our team to review the candidates' applications, and completely worth it!

This year's candidate selection is underway right now, from a pool of 452. Keep your eyes peeled for speaker announcements starting a few weeks into June.
