Water is Life and it has always drawn life to it, no matter its form. The problem is when you allow development to close to the water. The Lake Wales Ridge, in Central Florida, was know as the first beach front property. Please check out the link below for important info.http://www.myregion.org/clientuploads/pdfs/ncfl_lakewales.pdf
Florida is a state that required artificial drainage due to the fact that most of the state was marsh, wetland or under water. Now we have drained many if not most of the wetlands, changed and diverted the natural water flow (artificial drainage) so that development could happen.
As the development continued. so did the need for more dry land, so more and more artificial drainage was needed. Now our beaches, nature marshes, wetlands and the Everglades have been over built. They say, "if you build it they will come".
We are native Floridians and grew up in South Florida, in the 60's. Back then, people came to vacation because of our beaches and beautiful water ways like the great Everglades and all of Florida's Natural beauty. Florida Waters have always been the driving force behind our states economy.
Our elected offices, water management divisions and all the protection agencies have fail the people of Florida. They have allowed sprawling development, theme parks, water parks, malls, high-rise complexes, hotels, motels, etc. This all created jobs for the residents and vacation destinations for tourist and the Eco-tourism industry was born. The problem, we allow it to invade the marshes and wetlands which filter the water naturally. We have allowed the striping & ra**ng of 100,000's of thousands of acres, to extract nature resources that are rapidly available without strip mining for nutrients & phosphate.
Water management utilizes aquatic "safe" mixtures to manage aquatic vegetation. Many of the mixtures contain "glyphosate" as the active ingredient. Glyphosate is a know carcinogen in California and listed by the World Heath Organization (WHO) as a probable carcinogen. Big Agriculture like "Big Sugar" also spray death sprays containing Glyphosate. The agriculture sprays might have say 18% carcinogen and the Aquatic "Safe" versions may have 56% carcinogen. the striping, ra**ng, dredging of our natural resources , the pumping, dumping and injecting of hazardous waste deep beneath the waters surface, the spraying death sprays has all contributed to the contamination of our lands, waters. The Health impacts won't be truly know for decades. How many more water disaster have to happen before you ban off-shore drilling, injection wells, ocean dumping, hydraulic fracturing/Fracking, Strip Mining. This will improve our broken health, the water, air and the Natural Flow of Water.
We the People of Florida are also to blame. I still hear people say hooray when they hear of a new water park, massive malls and more development. I guess many don't understand that Water is NOT a endless flowing supply or sustainable resource. Over-Development is a major problem that exist and will continue to get worse.
Our elected officials claim to know what they're doing but the proof is in the pudding. Just look at what was once natural beauty and now is "Toxic" Water. It is up to the citizens to get involved and engaged, because our elected officials and protection agencies have proven that they don't know how to manage land or water and only play the blame game. This blame game has not and will not fix this problem. Now there are many, many contributors within this Toxic Land and Water problem.
We feel one of the largest contributors is the use of processes that included pumping, dumping and injection wells to dispose of contaminated waste water and treated sewage water. Billions of gallons of treated Waste Water is pumped through injection wells each day and even more is released. Most, if not all this waste water ends up back in our waters. It is very sad, and please let us not forget that our oceans have been used as an "approved" disposal site for God only knows what Waste and far how long. If you don't know where the "Waste" ends up. Please check out this link for some very eye opening "Waste" material that is legally and illegal dumped or disposed of in our Oceans & Waterways..

Excerpt "Outfalls from sewage plants can be up to 20 feet in diameter and release 4000 gallons of treated human waste every second, only miles from the shore. A wastewater treatment system discharges treated effluent to a water body from an outfall. An ocean outfall may be conveyed several miles offshore, to discharge by nozzles at the end of a spreader or T-shaped structure. Outfalls may also be constructed as an outfall tunnel or subsea tunnel and discharge effluent to the ocean via one or more marine risers with nozzles."

These types of disposal methods and practices are NOT "Best Management Practices" (BMP's). We call it "Poor Management Practices" (PMP's). When WE Stop these PMP's. We WILL see a improvement in the Water Toxicity. These dumping, pumping and injection facilities and all the "Industries" will claim that they are "highly regulated", and I would agree that there are a lot of paper regulations but the regulation system in place is pretty much a rely on the "Facility/Industry" owners to turn in paper reports and/or records. We do not believe this qualifies as third party regulating or insures any type of protections. It's called Self-Regulation.
Many of these "Facilities/Industries" are only required to be inspected once a year, once every 5 years, etc., and many are not inspected at all. Yes, that is right. Many "Facilities/Industries" are only inspected "IF" a proper complaint is filed with the "RIGHT" agency, department, etc. If anyone reading this knows the "right" agency, etc. PLEASE let the rest of us know!!!
We Must and We CAN bring back. That in itself will create change. WeCan thanks you. Please Like, Comment and Share. Start a conversation, it can lead US to the SOLUTIONS!!! What do we do with all the waste? We have figured out that the Ocean, the Aquifer, beneath the Aquifer, in porous material or layers of such within Our Aquifer and this includes all Water, does NOT work for storage and/or a disposal facility.
