From Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development:

The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD) announced today that federal Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) is available for eligible workers in Forest, Outagamie, Vilas, and Winnebago Counties due to severe storms and tornadoes that occurred July 27, 2026.

Applications for the DUA program must be filed by Dec. 7, 2026.

Individuals may be eligible for DUA if they:

Are an unemployed or self-unemployed worker whose unemployment was a direct result of the major disaster; and
Are a U.S. citizen, a U.S. national, or authorized to work in the U.S. (qualified alien); and
Are not eligible for regular UI benefits from any state; and
Have worked or were self-employed in, or were scheduled to begin work or self-employment in, Forest, Outagamie, Vilas, and Winnebago Counties; and
Received their primary income from the work or self-employment they can no longer perform due to the disaster.
In addition to individuals who lost their jobs directly due to the disaster, individuals eligible for DUA may also include those who:

Can no longer work or perform services because of physical damage or destruction to their place of employment as a direct result of the disaster or because they cannot reach their job or self-employment location because they cannot travel through the affected area due to the disaster; or
Were to start work or self-employment but were not able to because of the disaster; or
Cannot work or perform services, including self-employment, because of an injury caused as a direct result of the disaster; or
Became the breadwinner or major support of a household because of the death of the head of the household because of the disaster; or
Cannot work or perform services, including self-employment, due to the closure of a facility by the federal, state, or local government due to the disaster; or
Lost work or revenue if their employer or self-employed business received a majority of its revenue or income from an entity damaged, destroyed, or closed because of the disaster.
All DUA applicants must first apply for regular UI benefits before being considered for DUA benefits. Individuals will not receive DUA benefits if they are eligible for regular UI benefits during this disaster. Monetary loss due to property damage or crop damage does not automatically entitle an individual to DUA benefits.

DUA benefits are based on earnings for the most recent tax year. As a result, applicants may be asked to provide their earnings from their most recent federal tax returns when filing a DUA claim. Applicants will also need to provide their Social Security number (SSN). The first potential week payable for DUA benefits is the week ending Aug. 8, 2026.

Workers in Forest, Outagamie, Vilas, and Winnebago Counties, including those self-employed in farming or other businesses, must apply for benefits by Dec. 7, 2026. Applications filed after this date will not be considered timely, unless the individual provides good cause for filing after this date.

File as soon as possible by applying online at my.unemployment.wisconsin.gov. Applicants who need help using online services or are unable to go online should call the DUA Hotline at (608) 318-7100 during business hours.

Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP)
Warns Fans to Avoid Ticket Scams this Postseason

As Wisconsin sports fans gear up to support the Brew Crew during their postseason run, the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) is advising consumers to exercise caution when purchasing tickets. High demand for playoff games and sold-out events routinely creates opportunities for scammers pitching fake or counterfeit tickets.

“When there is demand for playoff tickets, scammers come out of the woodwork to rip off excited sports fans,” said Secretary Randy Romanski. “Be skeptical of too-good-to-be-true offers, sellers offering ticket printouts or photocopies, and requests to pay by wire transfer or pre-paid debit card.”

DATCP urges consumers to follow these key verification and safety guidelines before buying tickets:

1. Choose Reputable and Official Sources

Start at the Primary Source: Always buy directly from the venue, team website, or official primary box office. For Milwaukee Brewers postseason tickets, official primary channels include:
Online at brewers.com/postseason
By phone via the Brewers ticket office at (414) 902-4000
Via the official MLB Ballpark app on your smartphone
Use Trusted Resale Marketplaces: If buying secondhand, use established platforms with built-in buyer guarantees. SeatGeek serves as the official MLB fan resale marketplace.
Designated Stadium Resale Zones: At American Family Field, a designated “Ticket Resale Zone” is located adjacent to Helfaer Field. Reselling tickets outside of designated areas is strictly prohibited.
Watch for Hidden Fees: Third-party resale sites often inflate prices well above face value. Always review the full fee breakdown before completing checkout.
2. Protect Your Payment Method

Always Use a Credit Card: Credit cards offer federal fraud protection and formal dispute mechanisms for unauthorized or fraudulent charges.
Use Escrow Services for Peer-to-Peer Transactions: If purchasing from an independent seller outside a formal marketplace, insist on escrow payment protections. Walk away if a seller refuses or asks to bypass payment protections.
3. Properly Verify Digital Tickets & Security

Insist on In-App Transfers: Avoid static PDF attachments, scanned print-outs, or screenshots of barcodes. Official digital tickets for major sporting events transfer directly through official applications, such as the MLB Ballpark app.
Check Website URLs & Secure Your Account: Verify that website addresses begin with https:// and check for misspellings or lookalike domains. Enable Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) on ticketing and email accounts.
4. Be Ready to Recognize and Avoid Common Red Flags

"Too-Good-To-Be-True" Prices: High-demand, sold-out, or front-row seats offered drastically below market value are almost always fraudulent.
Social Media & Classified Ads: Exercise extreme caution on Instagram, Facebook Marketplace, X, or Craigslist. Scammers frequently hack legitimate accounts or pose as acquaintances. If a friend appears to be selling tickets, call or text them directly to verify.
High-Pressure Tactics: Beware of sellers creating artificial urgency ("Pay right now, only two left!") to force a quick decision.
Unsecure payment methods: Avoid using cash, debit cards, wire transfers, store/gift cards, cryptocurrency, or peer-to-peer apps like Cash App or Venmo.
What to Do If You Have Been Scammed

Contact Your Payment Provider: Reach out to the selling platform immediately and file a dispute with your credit card provider or financial institution.
File a Consumer Complaint: Contact the DATCP Bureau of Consumer Protection online at wi.gov or datcp.wi.gov, email [email protected], or call the Consumer Information Hotline at (800) 422-7128.
Report to Law Enforcement: Notify your local police department.
