Reminder that our next Alcouffe Playground Community Planning Meeting is coming up next week.

Since our first meeting, the Statewide Park Development and Community Revitalization Program (SPP), Round 5 has officially opened. We now know the potential project may be broader than just the play structure itself and could include other eligible recreation improvements within the larger Alcouffe recreation area.

That makes your input even more important. At this next meeting, we’ll review the ideas gathered at Meeting #1, make sure we captured them correctly, hear any new ideas, and begin talking about community priorities.

Nothing has been finalized. The community planning process is what will help determine what should ultimately be included, and any proposed project would still go back to the DOHIF Board for final review and approval.

Seniors on the Go is so much more than a luncheon! ❤️

Right now, we’re providing hands on computer training to more than 55 learners in our community, supported by 10 dedicated assistant volunteers.

This photo is from Class A, with Class B following afterward. Two groups of community members are building confidence and practical computer skills they can use every day.

We’re also very fortunate to have the Alcouffe Community Center as the home for this program. The center gives us a great setup with plenty of room for our learners, instructors, volunteers, equipment, and presentations, making it possible to offer this type of training right here in our foothill community.

At our upcoming September 5th Seniors on the Go luncheon, our featured technology presentation will be:

This presentation will cover practical ways to stay safer online, protect your personal information, recognize scams, and use technology with more confidence.

The presentation is open to everyone in the community. You do not have to be enrolled in our computer training program to attend.

This program is made possible through an AARP Livable Communities - AARP Community Challenge Grant with support from Digitunity and AT&T, along with the generous partnership and support of Yuba County Health and Human Services.

We are so grateful to all of our partners, volunteers, and the Alcouffe Community Center for helping us bring technology education and access to our foothill communities.

🎲 Friday Game Night is continuing at the Alcouffe Center!

We’ve heard from folks in the community who have really enjoyed Game Night and wanted to see it continue, so I’m taking it on to help make sure it keeps happening.

Looking for something fun to do on a Friday night? Come hang out, meet some new people, and play! We’ll have Dungeons & Dragons along with more than a dozen board games and card games to choose from, or bring a favorite game of your own.

Whether you’re an experienced gamer, have never played before, or just want to come watch and see what it’s all about, you’re welcome. Come by yourself, bring a friend, or bring the family. There’s something for everyone!

Thank you to everyone who came out last night for our first Alcouffe Playground Community Planning Meeting!

We had a great first discussion and gathered a wide range of ideas about what the community would like to see considered as we explore improvements to the playground and surrounding recreation area.

Some of the ideas discussed included additional swings, a separate toddler area, climbing features, more shade, accessible walking and fitness opportunities, recreation for teens, seating, fencing, and ways to make the area serve more ages and abilities.

This is only the beginning. Nothing has been finalized. These community meetings are part of the planning process for the potential California State Parks Statewide Park Development and Community Revitalization Program (SPP), Round 5, and the community’s input will help shape what ultimately moves forward.

This is also a very competitive grant process, so funding is not guaranteed. But the information, ideas, and priorities we are gathering through these meetings will not go unnoticed or be wasted. We will have this community input documented and available as we continue pursuing funding opportunities. If this particular grant is not successful, we will continue looking and applying for other grants until we are able to move the play structure and recreation improvements forward.

Our next community planning meeting will be September 5 at 4:00 PM at the Alcouffe Center play structure area behind the baseball field.

At that meeting, we’ll review the ideas gathered last night, make sure we captured them correctly, hear any additional ideas, and begin talking about priorities.

If you weren’t able to make last night’s meeting, please try to join us at one of the remaining meetings. In-person community participation is an important part of building a competitive grant application.

Tonight is our first Alcouffe Playground Community Planning Meeting!

Thank you for coming. DOHIF is exploring improvements to the Alcouffe playground and we have identified a potential California State Parks Statewide Park Development and Community Revitalization Program Round 5 grant.

This is a very competitive, point-based grant and funding is not guaranteed. One of the most important parts of the application is showing that the community actually helped design the proposed project.

So tonight we are not presenting you with a finished playground plan. We want to start by hearing from you.

What works here now?
What doesn’t?
What is missing?
Who is not currently being served well by this area?
And if you could improve this recreation area, what would you want to see?

We have five community meetings planned. The ideas from these meetings will eventually be narrowed and prioritized by the community. After that, the playground committee will develop a proposed project and bring it back to the DOHIF Board for final review and approval before a grant application is submitted.

Please come share your ideas. This project needs to reflect what our community wants.

🎯 YFACA is doing it again, bringing another awesome event to our community!

We’re excited to see YFACA expanding into programs specifically geared toward our local youth. While Nerf Wars is an all ages family event, this is also the beginning of something our community has been asking for: more activities and opportunities for young people right here in the foothills.

And here’s something we especially love about this event: the idea for Nerf Wars was thought of and presented to the YFACA membership by a local 7th grader! How great is that? Giving our youth a voice, listening to their ideas, and then helping make those ideas happen is exactly the kind of community involvement we love to see.

The Alcouffe Community Center is happy to accommodate YFACA and its Foothills Education Hub as they continue building more opportunities for youth and families in our area.

We hope to see lots of families out there on Saturday, September 19 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Alcouffe Baseball Field! 🎯
