A wonderful afternoon at Lake Francis for our YFACA Homesteaders Fly Fishing Entomology Class with Dr. Amber Partridge!

Participants learned about the fascinating aquatic insects and other organisms that form the foundation of freshwater ecosystems. From the shoreline, we explored the habitat around the lake and discussed the insects that fish depend on for food, as well as how these species help tell the story of water quality and ecosystem health.

While the class focused on fly fishing entomology, the lessons extended far beyond fishing. Understanding aquatic insects helps us better appreciate the complex relationships between lakes, streams, rivers, fish, and the surrounding environment.

Thank you to Dr. Partridge for sharing her expertise and to everyone who joined us for an afternoon of learning at beautiful Lake Francis.

We look forward to bringing more educational opportunities like this to our foothill community!

Whether you’re an experienced angler or simply curious about the natural world, this class is a great opportunity to learn about aquatic insects, trout feeding behavior, and how understanding nature can improve your time on the water.

Important: Watch for our sign on Lake Francis Road—it will mark the correct shoreline location where we’ll be meeting.

Ray and Marc are on stage and getting ready to kick off the Silver Family Fire Recovery Benefit at the Alcouffe Community Center.

Join us for a delicious rigatoni dinner, fresh salad, dessert, and a drink, along with raffle prizes, face painting, and live music. Come enjoy an evening of community, compassion, and support as we come together to help the Silver family in their recovery journey following the fire.

The following article was published in the Territorial Dispatch on June 12, 2026, and highlights the recent Yuba County Commission on Aging presentation to the Yuba County Board of Supervisors.

Thank you to the Territorial Dispatch for helping bring attention to the growing needs of seniors throughout Yuba County and the community programs working to address those needs.

It has been encouraging to see the growth of Seniors on the Go programs in Oregon House, Marysville, and Olivehurst. These programs demonstrate what can happen when communities come together to create opportunities for connection, meals, activities, education, and support for older adults.

One point I’d like to clarify is that the Seniors on the Go programs are independently operated through local nonprofits and community volunteers. Programs such as AARP Tax-Aide support, digital literacy assistance, meals, activities, and resource connections are developed and provided through these local nonprofit programs and their volunteers. We are grateful for the partnerships and support we receive from county agencies and community organizations that help make these services possible.

As these programs continue to grow, so does the need for volunteers, donations, and community partnerships. Every contribution helps us continue serving seniors and expanding opportunities for older adults throughout Yuba County.

Thank you to everyone who supports our seniors and helps strengthen our communities.

Join Dr. Amber Lynn Partridge for a unique introduction to the aquatic insects that trout feed on and how fly anglers use that knowledge to choose the right flies.

Learn:

✅ The four major aquatic insect groups trout feed on
✅ How to identify a hatch and match it
✅ Seasonal hatch timing in Sierra Nevada waters
✅ Simple streamside sampling techniques

This is an educational class focused on aquatic insects and fly selection. Participants are welcome to bring fishing gear, but the class is not a guided fishing trip and fishing instruction will be limited.

🌟 Community Shout-Out & Thank You! 🌟

What a wonderful Seniors on the Go gathering today at the Alcouffe Center!

A heartfelt thank you to all of our volunteers who came out today. Because the Alcouffe Center served as a polling location yesterday, we had to complete our entire room setup this morning before the luncheon. Thanks to the extra helping hands and everyone pitching in, everything came together beautifully.

What made today especially memorable was the wonderful mix of volunteers who showed up to help. Several younger community members joined us, including a local high school student, and their energy and willingness to jump in wherever needed was greatly appreciated. In fact, some of our regular volunteers were actually able to take a little break and enjoy the event for a change because there were enough helping hands to share the workload. It was a great example of community members of all ages working together, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who helped.

A special thank you goes to Dr. Conner for an informative and engaging presentation on pet health and safety. We appreciate you sharing your knowledge on topics such as rattlesnakes and wildlife encounters, ticks and foxtails, heat safety, fireworks anxiety, evacuation planning, and other important ways to keep our furry family members safe and healthy.

We were also pleased to provide fresh produce and pantry items to attendees, helping connect our community with healthy food resources.

A special shout-out to the Dobbins Oregon House Thrift Store for generously offering Seniors on the Go attendees 50% off purchases today. Thank you for supporting our local seniors and community!

📢 A few upcoming announcements:

💻 We recently received some exciting news regarding a future digital literacy project for older adults. While we can’t formally announce the details yet because AARP will be making the national announcement first, we’re very excited about the opportunity and look forward to sharing more information with the community later this month.

🧘 Yoga is now offered at the Alcouffe Center every Tuesday and Friday at 10:00 AM.

🎲 Game Night is held every Friday from 6:00 PM to Midnight. Come enjoy games, friends, and a fun evening in the community.

🏠 Habitat for Humanity will be joining us on July 1 to share information about programs and resources available to local residents.

🪑 We also have a community member looking to give away a roll-top desk. If you or someone you know may be interested, please send us a message and we’ll connect you.
