🌿A huge THANK YOU to everyone who joined us for the Orange Land Trust Annual Meeting and special presentation by Ferncroft Wildlife Rescue!
This was our second time welcoming the team from Ferncroft, and once again, they did not disappoint. Their presentation was fun, funny, educational, and packed with fascinating information about one of Connecticut’s most misunderstood native animals, the opossum!
Many people believe opossums are aggressive or commonly carry rabies, but the truth is quite the opposite. They are incredibly docile animals and very rarely carry rabies or other diseases. Even more interesting, they are America’s only marsupial, meaning they carry and raise their young in a pouch, much like a kangaroo.
If you ever come across an injured opossum, especially this time of year, it’s important to contact Animal Control or a licensed wildlife rehabilitator, as there may be several babies safely tucked away in that pouch who also need help.
Thank you again to everyone who attended and to Ferncroft Wildlife Rescue for sharing their knowledge, passion, and dedication to Connecticut’s wildlife.
