Roo is a six year old female cat that we spayed for a tenant of limited means several years ago. We received a call that Ron wasn't feeling good, vomiting and not eating. We took her to our vet where a physical exam showed that Roo was constipated and impacted and unable to defecate. She was in pain and dying if not treated. She required a procedure at a facility that was able to handle such a case. We consulted with Eclipse Veterinary Hospital, and they got her in right away. Roo received a procedure called deobstipation that saved her life. She survived and is doing great today. Roo is lucky. Cat Crew Rescue picked her up, brought her to our vet, transferred her to Eclipse, paid for the procedure and brought her back to her family. We also spent some time educating Roo's mother on the importance on not free feeding unlimited amounts of dry food. Cats need hydration and dry food is not appropriate food for cats. I understand that cost plays a role in what cats are fed, but PLEASE hydrate your cats. Make sure they always have enough water and if you are only feeding dry food, consider adding water or broth to the dry food.

Take a look at Roo's xray. That large oval mass is an oversized f***s dried, hard and stuck. There is no way that fist sized f***s would fit out of her a**l opening. She was dying and in horrible pain. you can see the size of her colon and how she was impacted. Roo is a very lucky girl. Had we not intervened, she would have certainly died an excruciating death. Now Roo is back home with her mama.

It took me four years, but I finally convinced this tenant to allow me to spay her indoor female cat, Gracie! However, it wasn't until her other cat died of Pyometra that she understood why I was urging her to allow me to get her cats spayed. Cat Crew Rescue picked up the cat from her home, delivered it back to her and paid to have the cat spayed, vaccinate and microchipped. We also TNRed dozens of cats in her yard, provided shelters for those cats AND one of our wonderful volunteers (Lauren) pays each month to have an auto-ship delivery of cat food through Chewy to arrive on her door step so she can feed the outdoor cats. Cat Crew Rescue does so much in our community, we help our neighbors, feed and care for the ferals and strays and provide our community resources so that we are a better community as a whole, people and cats alike.

Leo and Finn were adopted from us as eight week old brothers five years ago. They were bonded and still are. They were the sweetest kittens and now they are the sweetest adults! Leo and Finn's adopters could no longer keep them. NO NEGATIVE COMMENTS! We always take our cats back, for any reason, at any time. We have placed Leo and Finn with one of our wonderful foster families. But Leo and Finn would love to find a forever home. Their ideal home would be an adult only home, where there are no other pets in the home. Leo and Finn are loving, affectionate and gentle boys. Leo looks like a Maine C**n and resembles their large size and mellow temperament. Finn, Leo's biological brother, is smaller in size, but just as loving and playful. Last week we learned of this cat that wasn't feeling so well. She was sick and losing weight. So we set out to trap her and got her to the vet. Ember is already feeling better. She is on antibiotics and we are hoping for the best.
There are so many cats and kittens outside with no one to help them. We do our best to provide care to the strays and ferals that have no one else to care for them. Caring for feral cats is difficult and many rescues don't do it as there just aren't the resources. We do! We have helped so many sick and injured stray and feral cats in the last six months are adoptions have suffered as there just isn't enough hours in the day. Many people have reached out and asked how Minnie Lee is doing, the truth is she is not doing well. She has good days and bad days. Yes, we are doing everything possible to treat her and keep her comfortable. Because she is feral and doesn't allow anyone to touch her, it is a fine balance what we can do and how often she can be brought to the vet to be give subQ fluids. Ordinarily that is something I can do daily, but because she is feral, she doesn't allow me to touch her. She must be brought to the vet where they lightly sedate her to give her fluids. The sedation isn't great for her either. So we must balance everything to determine what is in her best interest. Right now, she enjoys her babies, she purrs and she still has a good appetite which is a good sign. We are doing everything we can for her.

For those who don't remember her story, Minnie Lee was found amidst the construction on the George Washington Bridge by the wonderful, caring construction workers there. They were caring for her for months until they noticed she may be pregnant. They then borrowed a trap and brought her to us. Minnie Lee gave birth to four beautiful babies who have no idea their mother is ill. The situation is tragic and one of the saddest we have had. It breaks our heart. For those asking if it is ok for the kittens to nurse, the answer is yes. Minnie Lee may have been exposed to poison in the past and that MAY have injured her kidneys, but that is only a guess. She does NOT have any toxins in her body now. We would not allow the kittens to nurse if she was poisoned. Poison is one of the things that were considered when trying to determine why her kidneys are so damaged in a younger cat.

Please keep Minnie Lee in your thoughts as we do our best to give her a safe place to care for her babies for as long as she has.
