International Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Foundation The International Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Foundation (IWSH) is the charitable arm of . Plumbing is vital to global health!

IWSH exists to help develop and enhance the role of the plumbing industry in community collaborations and educational exchanges, all over the world. Since our creation in 2016, IWSH has assembled teams of the best and brightest skilled volunteers from across the globe, joining forces to tackle design and construction projects that improve access to water, sanitation and hygiene for a variety of co

mmunities in need. We connect with local leaders, governmental and nonprofit partners, labor organizations, and manufacturers. We do this because we believe that clean water and sanitation are fundamental human rights: they directly impact life, prosperity, and opportunity. Today, IWSH oversees and supports a range of water, sanitation and hygiene initiatives via our international Community Plumbing Challenge program, and ongoing Plumbing Outreach projects.

This International Women’s Day, we celebrate women around the globe who use their voices and skills to build healthier, stronger communities. While we honor the achievements of all women today, we want to specially recognize the dedicated women of the trades who use their essential skills to empower communities and protect public health.

We are incredibly proud to spotlight several of the phenomenal tradeswomen leading this charge and driving our industry forward. Thank you to Patricia Contreras (Local 78) and Aster Tseng (Local 393) for their advocacy and leadership on the Young Professionals Committee. We honor Rebecca Greiff and Sharolyn Robison (UA Local 290) for their hands-on, collaborative work bringing safe water access to families during the IWSH Navajo project, alongside the continued dedication of Vikki Schlonies (UA Local 527) in Kitchener, Ontario for the IWSH Walpole Island project.

To all the skilled tradeswomen and women around the world: thank you.

Our work at Walpole Island First Nation goes beyond plumbing repairs. We are training the workforce to combat the shortage of licensed tradespeople in the community.

That’s why this IWSH project prioritizes workforce development — it gives residents and youth the tools and experience to maintain essential infrastructure long after we leave the site.

12/03/2025

By integrating workforce development directly into the project, IWSH & its partners helped local youth and residents gain the hands-on experience needed for plumbing maintenance.

This community project serves as a powerful demonstration of how we can unite to strengthen both local water systems and the future workforce.

100% of your Giving Tuesday donation to IWSH goes directly to our proven success equation:

Well-planned projects + skilled plumbers + safe products + world-class training = scalable and measurable change.

When you give to IWSH, you're not just funding projects–you're investing in a complete ecosystem that ensures lasting change. Thank you for your support.

Volunteer plumbers from UA Locals 46, 663, and 527 replaced nearly 40 outdated fixtures with high-efficiency toilets, faucets, and more.

These upgrades reduced water use, which alleviated demand on the septic system, and allowed the Centre to continue serving the community. As with every IWSH Community Plumbing Challenge, it was designed to build skills and opportunity from the ground up.

At Walpole Island First Nation, a week of plumbing upgrades and repairs became something more.

This IWSH Community Plumbing Challenge united licensed plumbers, manufacturers, and community members to modernize plumbing systems at the Walpole Island Communitu Centre — a vital hub for youth activities, cultural gatherings, and hockey.

At a local community center, skilled volunteer plumbers solved a long-standing problem: the lack of hot water.

For years, residents went without this basic need, which made daily services difficult. Our skilled volunteers installed a new hot water system, providing immediate and real improvements. This upgrade ensures proper sanitation and supports the well-being of everyone utilizing the center.
