The youth of Mississippi Mills invite everyone to join them on September 30th, at 7:00 pm, for the community’s annual Truth and Reconciliation Vigil, taking place at Riverfront Park, 272 Spring Street in Almonte.

This youth-led event offers an opportunity for a quiet, reflective walk at 6:40 followed by a program beginning at 7:00 pm with guest speakers, readings, and special guest sharings by Marcia Chum-Gibbons, a wonderful singer-songwriter of Cree heritage (Constance Lake First Nations), and David Finkle, a talented musician and knowledge keeper from Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory.

Following the program, everyone will be invited to place a candle at The Seven Gifts and, in their own time and space, to reflect on what has been shared and how each of us can continue on the path of Reconciliation.

Chairs are provided but you are welcome to bring your own seating. In the event of heavy rain, the vigil will take place at The Almonte Old Town Hall. (14 Bridge Street)

🧡 Orange Shirt Day Ceremony 🧡

September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day — a time to reflect on the legacy of Residential Schools, honour Survivors, and remember the children who never made it home.

The Lanark County Neighbours for Truth & Reconciliation invite the community to an Orange Shirt Day Ceremony led by Indigenous leaders and Elders.

📍 Healing Circle, Ka ije Mino Negockdadiik, Last Duel Park
⏰ Ceremony begins at 5:30 p.m.

Everyone is welcome to attend. Please wear orange if you can, to show your support and solidarity.

If you’re unable to join in person, we encourage you to wear orange and take time for learning and reflection wherever you are.

While many Canadians have a deep connection to the Harry Potter franchise, many others cannot separate the franchise from J.K. Rowling, one of the world's most prominent voices opposing trans rights and inclusion.

As a brand that is synonymous with Canada, Tim Hortons and their partnerships should reflect Canada – a country that is inclusive and proud of its diversity. As anti-2SLGBTQI hate continues to rise in Canada, especially for trans and gender diverse communities, campaigns that celebrate the Harry Potter brand can be deeply disappointing, infuriating, and saddening for those who are directly affected by that harm as well as their allies.

Egale urges companies to consider the impact their partnerships and marketing decisions can have on communities - particularly communities that are already facing heightened levels of discrimination, violence, and hostility. Everyone deserves to feel seen, respected, and included, and marketing promotions such as this only further exclusion and harm.

The Government of Canada is asking Canadians how a new $50 million initiative should support AI adoption in the cultural sector, and our voices matter.

If you care about the future of arts, culture, and creative communities, take a few minutes to complete the survey below and share why this funding should strengthen the cultural sector (actual workers and institutions) instead of AI.

And after you've done that, you can also write to your MP to let them know you believe this investment belongs in the arts. Public input shapes public policy( Link in comments).

Artificial intelligence (AI) technologies power many of the services and products Canadians use every day. To help make informed decisions and ensure the public has access to appropriate and timely information about AI, the Government of Canada has launched a public consultation on strengthening AI transparency.

We want to hear your views and concerns on:

• information about AI systems
• AI incidents
• AI agents

Your feedback will help inform Canada’s next steps on AI transparency.

The consultation is open from July 23 to September 23, 2026.

Join in the parade at Town of Smiths Falls under the Pride Flag and make the walk down Beckwith and over the new bridge into Centennial Park for a fun-filled day of music, vendors, food and family-friendly entertainment from 11am to 7pm!

This year's theme is "Small Town Glow, Big Pride" Wear or decorate yourself (bikes, wagons and scooters welcome) with Neon Rainbow colours in support of the community or just come as you are!

All are welcome as we show the love and march to make Smiths Falls a safe place where everyone is included and able to be their authentic selves.
