π£ The Oakfield Betterment Committee would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the Oakfield-Alabama Board of Education and OACS administration for their thoughtful consideration regarding the 2026β2027 school calendar and the decision to begin classes on Wednesday following Labor Daze weekend.
We know that building a school calendar is no simple task, and we deeply appreciate the willingness of district leadership to listen to community concerns, consider the broader impact on Oakfield traditions, and engage in meaningful dialogue throughout the process.
Labor Daze is more than a festival. It is a tradition woven into the fabric of this community for generations. It brings together families, alumni, students, local organizations, businesses, volunteers, and neighbors in a way few events can. Preserving the ability for our community to fully celebrate together, while still allowing students and families a transition day before the start of school, means more than words can adequately express.
We especially want to thank Board President Justin Staebell and the Board of Education for recognizing the importance of maintaining the balance between educational priorities and the traditions that help make Oakfield such a special place to call home.
This decision reflects the very best of our community: collaboration, respect, communication, and a shared commitment to supporting both our students and our hometown traditions.
Thank you for hearing us, supporting this long-standing tradition, and helping ensure that Labor Daze can continue creating memories for generations to come.
