Here is a photo showing the layers of paving on Main Avenue over the years.

According to research, the lower layer was placed about 1925 as part of a grant to take Main Ave from dirt to cement. Included were sidewalks along Main Ave and side streets.

The next layer was placed in 1973 per Tuscaloosa News records.

The last layer was placed in 1991 also per Tuscaloosa News.

For nearly two years, we’ve been quietly pouring our hearts into bringing something truly special to Northport. We couldn't be more excited to finally share it with you! 🌾

Follow along at Canebrake for all the details as we watch this wonderful new tradition grow. From delicious local food trucks and family fun down at the Northport train depot to live music through Porchella and ax throwing for the adults, there is so much to look forward to! Stay tuned!

Get ready for an incredible new community tradition! On Saturday, November 7, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM, we are thrilled to present Canebrake, featuring our brand-new community event—Porchella!

This is a totally free, family-friendly music festival that turns front porches into live music stages and sidewalks into front-row seats. We are shining a spotlight on our awesome community, incredible local musicians, and wonderful local businesses!

Walk. Explore. Connect. Eat. Drink. Dance
• Date: Saturday, November 7, 2026
• Time: 12PM – 5PM
• Location: Historic Downtown Northport
• Cost: Completely FREE, thanks to our awesome sponsors, volunteers, and porch hosts!
• Schedule: Come and go as you please—the Canebrake fun lasts all day!

• Bring Your Blankets & Lawn Chairs: Find your favorite spot on the lawn or sidewalk, settle in, and enjoy a day of live music from local bands across a variety of genres.
