NAEF's Third Annual Winter Gala

NASD students are SOARING 🦅 in NAEF's Beyond the Nest program! Check out these scholars! Not only are BTN students on the road doing college tours, but they are working on academic research with professors from Penn and NYU.

Students were interested in collecting data about the negative and positive aspects of their high school experience. They knew that they were high achieving and involved in multiple AP and Honors courses, extracurriculars and sports, but were not sure why many of their peers struggled even with attendance or following norms of the school that would lead to success.

Students met with Dr. Holly Link from the Center for Culture, Art, Training, and Education (CCATE) and Dr. Nelson Flores from the University of Pennsylvania to discuss existing research projects in progress at Penn and at CCATE. Dr. Link and Dr. Flores met with students at NAHS multiple times to further their research and teach the students how to collect data in focus groups.

This research then led students to students connecting with NYU professor, Dr. Sophia Rodriguez. She was extremely impressed with the students and suggested the students conduct research of their own in a Youth Participatory Action model. BTN students partnered with Dr. Rodriguez, created a survey that was made accessible to all NAHS students, and are currently analyzing the results in order to create change. The students' goal is to present their research to the school board by December.

Beyond the Nest is where qualitative research meets action, activism, and advocacy! So proud of our student researchers!

NAEF's Pathways Project kicked off this morning with 44 🤩 NAHS students ready to think about college, careers, entrepreneurship and everything in between! Many thanks to our lead teachers Ms. Nichole Mitchell and Professor Shawn Murray for guiding our students through the many post-secondary opportunities that await them!

Year 2 of NAEF’s LEAD (learn, empower, advocate, deliver) Program kicked off today at our official clubhouse at Recyclereadrepeat, and our NASD students were 🔥🔥🔥!

The LEAD Program teaches students about nonprofit leadership and career opportunities in the nonprofit industry. Participants also serve as student representatives on NAEF’s Board of Directors.

We have some special projects in the works, so WATCH THIS SPACE! 👀
