Last night, friends, colleagues, and members of the Newport Beach community came together to celebrate and say thank you & farewell to someone who has spent years helping tell the story of our city — Ed Olen.

Through his photography, filmmaking, and storytelling, Ed has captured far more than images. He has documented the people, history, character, and moments that make Newport Beach so special, preserving stories that otherwise may have been lost along the way. Beginning with Newport Beach TV in 2007 and continuing through his work with Visit Newport Beach and countless community projects, Ed has given our city an incredible visual record of itself.

Most recently, his documentary Sin City: Newport Beach brought a fascinating chapter of our history to life, premiering to a sold-out audience at the Newport Beach Film Festival and later bringing nearly 400 community members together for a special screening benefiting two of our local historical organizations.

But perhaps Ed’s greatest contribution has been his ability to make people care about the stories behind the photographs — bringing awareness to our history, our community, and even causes far beyond Newport Beach through his work.

The Newport Beach Foundation was honored to recognize Ed last night for his extraordinary dedication to preserving the history, character, and spirit of Newport Beach. While we are sad to see move onto his next chapter, we are incredibly grateful for everything he has given this community.

Ed, Thank you for capturing our stories, preserving our history, and helping generations see our city through your lens. You will be greatly missed, and your legacy will continue to inspire.

DCP Spotlight: Grayson Largman

Congratulations to DCP alumnus Grayson Largman on his recent appointment to the Newport Beach Finance Committee!

Grayson is a Director at B. Riley Securities, where he advises business owners on mergers and acquisitions, complex recapitalizations, and other strategic transactions. A Newport Beach resident, he is passionate about giving back to the community through civic engagement and public service.

“The Distinguished Citizens Program provided a unique behind-the-scenes look at the people, departments, and systems that make Newport Beach such an exceptional community. While residents often see the visible outcomes of city services, DCP highlighted the tremendous coordination, planning, and dedication that goes into delivering them every day.”

As he begins his service on the Finance Committee, Grayson shared:

“Newport Beach has set the standard for fiscal responsibility, and I’m honored to play a small role in helping preserve that legacy. I look forward to serving the community and supporting the thoughtful stewardship that has made Newport Beach one of the best-run cities in the country.”

Congratulations to the 14th Distinguished Citizens Program Graduates!

Over the past several weeks, this remarkable group of community leaders has gained an inside look at the people, departments, and organizations that help make Newport Beach such an exceptional place to live, work, and serve. From public safety and city operations to local business and nonprofit leadership, they explored the many facets of our community while building lasting relationships and a deeper appreciation for civic engagement.

The Distinguished Citizens Program is designed to connect and empower emerging leaders with the knowledge, resources, and connections needed to make a meaningful impact in Newport Beach. The members of the 14th class embraced every opportunity, asked thoughtful questions, and demonstrated a genuine commitment to strengthening our community.

We are proud to welcome these graduates into the growing network of Distinguished Citizens Program alumni and look forward to seeing the positive contributions they will make in the years ahead.
