From diagnosis, through treatment, survivorship, and long after, we are there supporting people through access to a network of practitioners and programs that offer physical, emotional and spiritual healing and support throughout the course of their treatment and beyond. In this informative and supportive creative writing workshop, local author and educator ✨Ellen Szabo ✨explores journaling as a gentle, creative practice of reflection, expression, and self-care.

Designed to inspire, expand, and support your journaling practice, Ellen uses writing prompts and guided discussion to share how journaling can be an avenue for exploration, transformation, and discovery.

With an emphasis on creativity and healing, the workshop explores the many forms that journaling can take and the many places it can take us. No previous writing experience is necessary. No one will be required to speak or share; you can participate as a listener in a confidential environment.

💜"No one can truly prepare you for the emotional shock of a cancer diagnosis. No matter how many people you have known with cancer, your story is entirely your own." 💜

On this meet Melissa, one of the many cancer survivors who, as she shares in her story, received "✨a different kind of support"✨ from our NBCR community.

"In the spring of 2025, I went to my annual screening mammogram just like I was making a quick run to the grocery store — it had been an important, regular item on my checklist for 15 years. The months that followed were a whirlwind of imaging, biopsies, a bilateral mastectomy and radiation. While the medical professionals were amazing, I was consumed by waves of shock, grief and unease.
I needed a different kind of support. That is when I found the North of Boston Cancer Resource (NBCR) community, and I could finally breathe a little easier.✨

While healing from treatment, I immersed myself in the NBCR community. ✨I watched their Speaker Series videos, read everything on the website, and connected with remote programming through the Dempsey Center. I saw examples of others who had walked this cancer journey and were thriving, and their stories gave me immense hope when I was feeling discouraged.

The in-person access to healing and supportive therapies was only available to me because of the NBCR. The Reiki, Oncology Massage, and Manual Lymphatic Drainage I received through generous gift certificates were the only way I could access this crucial complementary care that helped me look after my whole self. ✨

NBCR is a lifeline for me right now while I remain in treatment. I am deeply grateful for this organization, and the hope it has provided makes me look forward to the day I can pay it forward." Melissa Martin✨
