Hazel's House

Hazel's House We are a foster based, 501c3 non-profit animal rescue based in Newberg, Oregon. We are an all volunteer, foster based 501c3 non profit program.
(3)

We help animals from all over Oregon, parts of Washington, and from high kill animal shelters out of state when possible. Hazel's House Rescue has been helping cats and kittens since October of 2017 and dogs/puppies since 2021. We take in cats, kittens, dogs, and puppies from all over Oregon and when possible help with animals from high kill states. We can assist with pregnant or nursing moms cats

or dogs, kittens (all ages), adults cats, puppies, and adult dogs. We also have resources for low cost spay and neuters, TNR, and food help. Our adoption process is lengthy, but worth all the steps. We are only looking for the very best fit for the animals in our care. Its never first come first adopt - rather- the purrrfect home. Our overall goal is to help with overpopulation one animal at a time.

We’re back from a few days away, but we’re still laying low. Unfortunately, while we were taking a much-needed break, the numbers reminded us that the rescue doesn’t take a break.

We ended last month more than $3,500 in the negative.

We work hard to stay out of the red each month so we can keep helping animals and growing our community programs, but last month hit us hard. Darth Vader’s vet care, Hunny’s dental, Cherry’s eye surgery, the Ice Cream Pie litters’ infections, fixing cats and kittens who haven’t found homes yet, and paying upfront for our hoodie order all added up.

But here’s the good news: an incredible supporter has given us a $5,000 MATCH.

We need your help to climb out of that negative balance and capture the full match. If you’ve been waiting for a good day to donate, today is that day.

Help us turn a $3,500 deficit into a $5,000 opportunity. Every dollar helps.

There can sometimes be confusion about what the word ā€œfosterā€ means, especially when someone is going through a difficult or temporary situation.

Fostering generally means taking an animal into your home on behalf of a shelter or rescue. That animal is under the rescue's care, and the goal is to eventually find that animal a permanent home through adoption. A foster is part of the rescue system and is helping care for an animal that needs a new home.

Private boarding or pet sitting is different. If you are moving, going into rehab, working on housing, going on vacation, or simply need someone to care for your pet for a period of time with the intention of coming back for them, you are looking for temporary boarding or a pet sitter.

A rescue or shelter is not a free boarding facility.

There are major questions and liabilities that come with taking someone's privately owned pet for temporary care. What happens if the animal gets sick or injured? Who pays the veterinary bills? What happens if the owner doesn't come back? How long is the rescue expected to care for the animal before it is considered abandoned?

These situations are not as simple as, ā€œCan someone foster my pet for a few weeks?ā€

Shelters and rescues are already full and working to help animals that have been surrendered, abandoned, found as strays, or are otherwise in need of a new home. Our foster homes are a critical part of that system and are meant to help those animals until they can be adopted.

Needing temporary care for your pet does not automatically mean your pet needs a foster.

Sometimes you need a pet sitter. Sometimes you need private boarding. And sometimes, if you are truly unable to keep your animal, you may need to surrender them to a rescue or shelter.

The words matter because the situations, responsibilities, and expectations are very different.

What does taking a vacation look like when you’re the founder of an animal rescue?

It means preparing everything and everyone so the rescue can keep running while you finally take a breath, making sure every foster has an emergency contact, preparing that contact for anything that could happen, notifying the vet office, stocking fosters up on food and supplies, and making sure everyone knows the plan.

It means giving everyone enough notice to come in and get what they need, checking our supply stockpile, making sure fosters and animals are situated, and tying up emails and loose ends.

Because when you have well over 60 animals in care, you don’t just decide to take a vacation and turn off your phone.

A lot happens behind the scenes just to be able to take a break. But after a chaotic kitten season and months of nonstop work, sometimes you have to take that moment to pause, recharge, and come back ready to do it all again.

Even a vacation takes a whole lot of rescue work first. ā¤ļø

Vacation time! After tomorrow, we will be taking most of the week away from the rescue office until next week.

This kitten season has been chaotic, exhausting, and incredibly busy. We are taking a moment to pause, rest, and recharge after everything this season has brought.

We will be back next week with a bang and ready to jump back into everything! Thank you for your continued support and understanding while we take a little time to catch our breath. ā¤ļø

Yesterday, seven of us tackled adoptions, swag sales, and an organization project we didn’t even know we were going to start!

Our pet food bank has grown tremendously thanks to the incredible veterinary clinics, pet food stores, and supporters who donate, along with the growing number of families who use it. While our volunteer who manages the majority of the food bank does an amazing job, it was time for a little fall cleaning! That meant pulling EVERYTHING out, dating, labeling, restocking, organizing, purging, and putting it all back together. It was a long day!

At the end of the day, we took those who were still there out to dinner at our neighbors at BearKat Brewing. They went above and beyond, staying longer than expected and jumping into a huge project they didn’t have to help with. There were plenty of smiles, laughs, and banter along the way.

We appreciate our volunteers and fosters more than words can say. ā¤ļø

We are in need of supplies for the rescue! With well over 60 animals currently in our care, we go through food and litter incredibly fast.

Right now, our biggest needs are wet food, dry food, and clay litter. Every can of food, bag of kibble, and container of litter helps us continue caring for the animals depending on us every single day.
