⭐️ Cudas Unhooked Club Week 12 ⭐️

We love hosting speakers, especially when it is a family affair! Earlier in the semester, Kristie, a nutritionist, came to speak. She connected us to her husband, and we are so glad she did!

Erik Peltier and Betty Beard from the Northwest Lineman College joined us in the classroom yesterday. Having this school in our backyard is such a gift to our area! Erik shared what a lineman does, the training NLC offers, and the many careers open to NLC graduates. Is it a surprise that the #1 question was the earning potential? The students were impressed! Several students want to visit the campus, so we are working to make that happen. Thanks again to Erik and Betty for visiting and sparking young minds!

It is so rewarding to share information with these students that opens their eyes to possibilities after graduation that they never considered. As they say, you don't know what you don't know! That said, we are always looking for inspiring speakers, people to share about career options, and more with our students. We are currently booking Tuesdays in 2027.

Thanks also to Chick-fil-A Edgewater for supplying lunch to our growing membership! Your food is always a hit.

⭐️ Cudas Unhooked Club Week 11 ⭐️

Posting a week late about last week's meeting. Sometimes, when one of the team is missing, things break down. We are all okay, but those of us who were there were so in the moment that we have no pics!

We had the most delicious homemade meal from the Oak Hill Garden Club! The students inhaled the lasagna, bread/garlic bread, salad, and cupcakes. Thank you to all of the generous garden club members who made this possible. The kids were full and happy.

As for the programming, we covered a lot of ground, recapping what our club does for new students present. We also reviewed the Coaching Dinner from the week prior. At the end of the yoga session, Becky Collins gave each student a piece of paper that said, "You are loved." We later shared the message from Youth Emotional Support (YES) and gave out the gift bags.

Important messages need reinforcement, so at today's meeting, as a Halloween treat instead of candy, each member present chose a heart rock to remind them they are loved. A few took a second to share the message with a loved one.

🍽️ October Coaching Dinner 🍽️

Our Cudas Unhooked Club gathers once a month for a special event at the Cuda House. This month's event theme was self-care and stress management.

Our wonderful speakers were Bethany Bennett and Becky Collins. Bethany is a long-time supporter, and this time, in addition to painting, she helped our kids do yoga. Becky is a newer mentor and volunteer; she led the yoga session. Yoga is one of her passions and something Becky found as a teenager that has helped her manage the stresses of daily life ever since.

Our students enjoyed yoga outdoors, a lovely lasagna meal prepared by our favorite chef, Jim Patania, and then some painting with Bethany. After painting, we enjoyed Jim's dessert and also talked about how we cope with stress, how to listen to our body, and how to advocate for ourselves. We wrote our own self-care plans, so we know how to manage stress in our lives in a productive, healthy way.

To cap off the night, each student received a self-care bag full of items donated by another charity, Youth Emotional Support (YES). Rose Meeske and her team lovingly carry on the work her daughter Maddie began. Please find the YES website for more information.

If you know someone who needs support through self-care, we have a couple of bags left and would love to share them with those in the community who need a lift.

🧁 Calling anyone who loves to bake! 🍪

Twice a year, McKenna's NSB opens its patio to the Cudas Unhooked Club for a most delicious bake sale. Our supporters are the lifeblood of this event because every item sold is baked with love by a community member.

Would you like to join this sweet and savory group? If so, please email [email protected] and let us know what you'd like to contribute.

The preferred drop-off date is Sunday, November 8th, from 3-5pm at the Cuda House (near the high school), though we can make other arrangements. Our amazing volunteer staff will expertly package your items; we just need you to bake!

The bake sale begins on Monday, November 9th at 5pm. More on that later!

⭐️ Cudas Unhooked Club Week 10 ⭐️

Wait, what? Week 10? How are we already this far into the school year?

With all of the new members, we took a week to review what our club is about and to share the benefits. We are so proud that students choose to attend, learn, participate, and volunteer. We believe these good choices should be rewarded.

Rewards are sometimes small... a t-shirt, a snack, needed school supplies, but other rewards have big impacts on a family budget that might already be stretched to capacity. Things like homecoming tickets, help with everything for prom, senior dues, a yearbook, and Grad Bash can all be earned. We also love giving rewards, like help with scholarships, that help pay for college! Still, other rewards are immeasurable, like having a mentor or life coach.

It all ties back to the Spectrum of Effort that we shared with the kids many weeks ago. The more they invest in themselves, the more we have to offer. It is truly a win-win!

Thank you to General Public House for supplying today's meal. The baked ziti was a big hit. We were also blessed with a full staff of volunteers, plus Leanna, one of our Board members, who helped set up, serve, and clean up. 🩷

Besides the snack cabinet and tower, which we completely restocked this week, we have a new addition to our classroom —the clothing rack. The kids already enjoyed shopping for fall layers. Thank you to the many friends of the program who donated gently used, fashionable items.

Cudas Unhooked Club in the wild!

A few of our Cudas helped the Artists' Workshop set up for their Plein Air Paint Out event this weekend. This crew helped set up the display frames and other general setup.

If you enjoy art, we hope you check out this event going on at the Marine Discovery Center. We will also have volunteers helping on Wednesday and Saturday.
