Lions clubs are recognized for their service to the blind, visually impaired, deaf and hearing impaired. We also support many local charities.

Founded in 1917, Lions Club International is the world’s largest service club organization with 1.3 million members in approximately 46,300 clubs in 206 countries. Lions are men and women who volunteer their time to humanitarian causes. Worldwide, Lions clubs are recognized for their service to the blind, visually impaired, deaf and hearing impaired. This service began when Helen Keller challenged Lions to become “knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness” in 1925. Today, Lions extend their commitment to sight conservation through countless local, national and international efforts working with eye care and health professionals and philanthropic organizations. Lions club members also collect and recycle eyeglasses for distribution in developing countries year round. Lions work to improve the environment, support diabetes education, conduct hearing programs and provide disaster relief around the world through their foundation.

Our donation is in to help support the Leader Dog training school, which trains and provides guide dogs to sight impaired individuals. There have been dogs placed locally and we have even had them as a guest at our meeting! It is amazing what they can learn to do and the impact they can make on someone's life. Check them out and if you would like to also help this cause, the program has obtained a matching grant if you donate by 9/30.

People from all over the world come to Leader Dog to learn the necessary skills for safe and independent travel with a guide dog or white cane. And while all of our services are free of charge, we receive zero state or federal funding, so your gift truly helps make people unstoppable!

ED Leigh Sicina from the Shenandoah Community Health Clinic was our speaker this evening. They are doing a lot of good work there and it was rewarding to hear how are donations to the organization are helping those in need.
