SCADD extends our deepest condolences to the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and to the family and loved ones of Michael J. Thomas, a respected Elder, former Tribal Council Chairman, traditional singer, mentor, and proud Pequot.
We were honored over many years to welcome Michael to Lebanon Pines, where he shared his song, drumming, and his own journey with the men in our care. What he brought was deeply personal. He shared these practices as medicine and healing, while showing through his own life the strength that can come from culture, community, and connection.
SCADD has valued our relationship with the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation across decades, and we recognize that this loss belongs first to Michael’s family, his loved ones, and his Tribal community. We are simply grateful for the time he chose to spend with us and for what he gave so generously to the men of Lebanon Pines.
May his family and community feel the depth of respect and gratitude surrounding them during this difficult time.
Our community's heart aches for this grave and sudden loss. We will remember Michael most for who he was — a devoted father, brother, uncle, cousin, Elder, mentor, and proud Pequot whose love for his family and his people was at the heart of everything he did. His legacy is woven into the very fabric of our Nation, and his spirit will continue to live through his children, his family, the people he mentored, and the generations who will follow.
