1880s - Brooklyn Bridge under construction, from Fulton Landing.

The bridge spelled doom for the Fulton Ferry Terminal, built in 1865. The ferry stopped service to Manhattan in 1924 and the building burned down the next year.

Now the area is very commercialized with a Shake Shack where Pete’s Downtown used to be, originally the Franklin House, now stands. The ballroom upstairs used to double as a site for Quaker services.

On this day in 1969, the crew of Apollo 11 carried more than scientific instruments to the Moon.

Among the personal items taken on the historic mission was a Masonic flag, later returned to Earth and preserved as a unique piece of Masonic history.

On this day, July 20, back in 1969, an extraordinary event happened that took "one giant leap for mankind". At exactly 20:17, Apollo 11, with Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin aboard, touched down on the moon's surface. After a wait of about 7 hours, both Armstrong and Aldrin, who is also a 33° Mason, stepped out and became the first people to walk on the moon. Buzz Aldrin took a piece of Freemasonry with him - a small Scottish Rite flag tucked away in his spacesuit. Talk about leaving a mark!
