IAFF Local 841 New Bedford Firefighters was established in 1945 for the betterment of the members of the New Bedford Fire Department. It has been the mission of this Union’s leadership to promote unionism amongst its members, advocate for safe working conditions and training of its members and to encourage its members to take advantage of any educational opportunity. We are proactive members in the Professional Fire Fighters of Massachusetts and the International Association of Fire Fighters. IAFF Local 841 New Bedford Firefighters are full time professional fire fighters protecting the City of New Bedford, Massachusetts which has a population of 100,000 citizens covering an area of 36 square miles. We are a department of over 200 members,manning 6 Engine Companies, 3 Ladder Companies, a Fire Investigation Bureau, a 41’ Fire/Rescue Boat, an Airport Crash Truck, and a Fire Dispatch Center.

Senator Montigny has been a dedicated advocate for New Bedford firefighters—delivering the $500,000 state earmark that kept Station 9 open and Engine 9 running, while consistently championing firefighter health and safety on Beacon Hill.

A huge thank you to our local legislative delegation—Representatives Tony Cabral, Chris Hendricks, Chris Markey, Mark Sylvia, and Steven J. Ouellette—for advocating for New Bedford’s public safety.
We thank them for their hard work in securing the vital state budget funding needed for Engine Company 9 to remain in operation without interruption at normal staffing levels. This critical funding protects emergency response capabilities, safeguards our residents, and supports our members who serve our community every day. This past Monday, members of New Bedford Firefighters Local 841 had the privilege of welcoming State Senator Mark Montigny to Station 9.
Senator Montigny stopped by to speak directly with our members about ongoing legislative priorities, public safety initiatives, and state funding. His leadership was instrumental in securing a $500,000 state earmark—vital funding that directly ensured Fire Station 9 remained open and Engine 9 stayed operational to serve the residents of the North End.
In addition to delivering this critical funding, Senator Montigny has been a steadfast advocate for firefighter health and safety on Beacon Hill. He continues to champion critical legislation, including funding for early cancer screenings and advocating for PFAS-free personal protective equipment (PPE) to safeguard our members on the job.
In recognition of his commitment to public safety and first responders, Senator Montigny was recently endorsed by the Professional Fire Fighters of Massachusetts (PFFM)—an endorsement Local 841 is proud to stand behind.
