Congratulations to our Class of 2026 Scholarship Recipients! This year the Foundation is awarding $25,000 in scholarships to six students! Sarah Frye and Harrison Joshi from Nashua High North along with Wylie Hart and Teresa Mathew from Nashua High South will each receive and $5,000 scholarship and Elsie Goyette and Divya Raval from Nashua High South will each receive $2,500.

Sarah will be studying Civil Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in the fall. She aspires to "design infrastructure that is harmonious with nature and builds upon the beauty of the environment surrounding us."

Elsie will be pursuing a degree diagnostic medical sonography, inspired by the medical professionals who helped diagnose and treat her older brothers brain tumor.

Wylie's lifelong love for animals will be bringing her to the University of Rhode Island to study animal science and aims to pursue a postgraduate veterinary degree.

Harrison will attend Worcester Polytechnic Institute in the fall pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering, a path he discovered after building two trailhead projects in for the Nashua Conservation Commission for his Eagle Scout project.

Teresa will be studying Industrial Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology this fall, a versatile field that will allow her to combine interests in business, math, physics, and problem solving.

Divya will be attending Northeastern University of study behavioral neuroscience, an interest that developed after seeing her grandmother develop dementia symptoms and inspire her to want to make treatment more accessible.

Congratulations to all and best of luck to the Class of 2026!

The Brian S. McCarthy Memorial Foundation held its second annual Family STEM Day on May 16, 2025 at Nashua High School South in Nashua, NH. This year saw the incorporation of the Planetarium at Nashua South, a crowd favorite that was standing room only for each show! We had plenty of other demonstrations and interactive hands on activities to engage in STEM Learning from Safe Solar viewing with the New Hampshire Astronomical Society, the Boston Dynamics famous "robot dog" from Spark Academy, FIRST Robotics, Nitrogen Ice Cream demonstrations, and the always popular Tesla Coil from Xplploration. Attendees were able to enjoy some sweet cake pops, a free photo booth, and swag bags! With nearly 40 organizations participating with 40 demonstrations, we once again drew 1,000 students young and old! Thank you to our Planetarium Sponsor, Harvey Construction, and our STEM Enthusiast Sponsors, Paisner Dental Associates, Prunier and Prolman PLLC, Rockland Trust, and World Academy. Mayor Jim Donchess happened to be visiting us during the 2nd Annual Family STEM Day! when we spotted him guessing how many Lego pieces were in the jar!

Guess what! He came closest to the accurate number! He guessed 817 pieces, and there were actually 827! How cool is that!

Mayor, you seemed to be enjoying yourself there, we're so happy you visited and spent time with us!

We have so much to share with you from our 2nd Annual Family STEM Day! Stay tuned for lots of photos!!!!

First we need to introduce you to our Inaugural STEM Champion!

Teresa Rossetti is our first recipient of this award.

She is an Engineering Pathways teacher at Nashua High South. Earlier this year three of Ms Rossetti’s students were named national finalists in the 16th annual Samsung Solve for Tomorrow STEM competition.

Under her guidance, and that of Occupational Therapist Dr. Traci Johnson, three students created a smart mirror system for students with special needs. The smart mirror assists students with basic self-care tasks such as shaving and face washing.

Dr. Johnson spoke highly of Ms Rossetti in the Nashua Telegraph article for her ongoing efforts to challenge and excite her students. “Teresa is building confidence in these kids to go after these national competitions,” said Johnson.

By teaching and inspiring her students to expand their skills she is encouraging interest and expanding STEM in our community.

See our website to learn how you can nominate a STEM Champion for next year! https://www.bsmmemorial.com/

Keep your eye on the sky!

It might be possible to see the northern lights Thursday night, with a strong geomagnetic storm possible.

06/03/2026

I’ll sky-watch on any clear night of the year, but in my book, there’s nothing like stargazing in the northern hemisphere’s summer—especially in 2026. The next few months are packed with interstellar action: not one but two eclipses, extended hours with the Milky Way core, and near-perfect conditions for the prolific Perseid meteor shower.
