There are still many misconceptions surrounding naloxone, but education helps people feel more confident and prepared to respond in an emergency.

Learning about overdose prevention is not about fear — it is about safety, awareness, and community care.

When people have access to knowledge and resources, they are better prepared to help save lives.

Free naloxone, training, and support are available through Rockland Council Prevention & Recovery.

In an overdose emergency, quick action matters.

Recognizing the signs, calling 911, staying with the person, and responding calmly can help save a life.

Many people hesitate because they are afraid of doing something wrong, but learning simple overdose response steps can help build confidence and preparedness.

Education and awareness help communities respond with compassion instead of fear.

Overdose emergencies often happen when other people are nearby.

A friend. A family member. A classmate. A neighbor.

Knowing how to respond calmly and quickly can make a life-saving difference while emergency help is on the way.

Preparedness is not about expecting the worst — it is about being ready to help someone when every moment matters.

The Rockland Council would like to thank Nyack Public Schools for hosting a Community Narcan/Naloxone Training. We are grateful for the opportunity to provide parents and community members with access to this important and potentially life-saving information.

The engagement and feedback from attendees highlighted the value of these conversations, with many parents advocating for this training to also be made available to graduating seniors as they prepare for the next chapter of their lives.

A special thank you to Dornzella, Jessica, and the entire Nyack High School team for coordinating this event and supporting prevention education in our community.

We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to Nicki Zion for co-facilitating the training and for courageously sharing her personal story following the overdose death of her son, Josh. By turning her pain into purpose, Nicki continues to help others through her work in the treatment and recovery community, ensuring that Josh’s life and legacy continue to make a difference in the lives of others. Her honesty, strength, and commitment to helping others has made a meaningful impact on everyone in attendance.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support education, awareness, prevention, and recovery efforts throughout Rockland County.
