It’s National Veterinary Technician Week, but we’re celebrating someone extra special! 🐾

Although it’s Veterinary Technician Appreciation Week, we couldn’t let the week pass without celebrating our very own Alea Munoz!

Ms. Alea serves as the Tipton County Schools Veterinary Teaching Assistant, and since our program is a little unique and there’s not exactly a designated appreciation day for her role, we decided to make our own! So, we’re officially claiming this week for Ms. Alea, too!

Next month will mark ONE YEAR of having Ms. Alea on our team! She works between both of our teaching clinics, Munford Spay Neuter Clinic and our sister location- Tipton Community Animal Clinic - Brighton. She’s a proud Munford High School graduate and will be graduating from UT Martin this fall with her bachelor’s degree!

If you’ve called to schedule an appointment, asked a question, or shared your experience with our clinics, chances are you’ve talked to Ms.Alea! But her work goes far beyond the phone.
She’s a pro at animal restraint, skilled with a needle and blood draws, our discharge paperwork and medical records queen, our veterinarian’s right hand and someone our patients and their people can count on for professional, compassionate care.
And perhaps most importantly, even in the middle of the daily BUSY, Ms. Alea makes time to slow down, teach, encourage, and oversee our veterinary science students as they learn and practice these same skills.
Our teaching clinics wouldn’t be what they are without her, and we’re so thankful she’s part of our team!

Ms. Alea, you are just as unique as the position you fill, and you’ve proven just how valuable you are to our program. We are so proud to have you on our team and even prouder to celebrate YOU! 💙

A little patience. A lot of learning. And a whole lot of growth! 🐾

Each name on this board represents one of our 2026–2027 Veterinary Interns working in the clinic through the Munford High School & Munford FFA Chapter Work Based Learning program. These students are training in patient care, safety procedures, medical equipment, clinic preparation, sanitation, record keeping, teamwork, communication, and so much more.

Little by little, they are checking skills off their lists, gaining confidence, and proving that they have what it takes to help keep our clinic running smoothly. Every clinic day gives them another opportunity to turn what they have learned in the classroom into real-world experience.

And while they learn, our clinic continues to serve!
We are consistently scheduling appointments on Tuesdays and Thursdays and offer spay/neuter, wellness, and vaccination services for community cats while also continuing our partnership with the Tipton County Animal Shelter.

If your pet is due for vaccines, needs a wellness visit, or you are interested in spay/neuter services, reach out and touch base with us. We’ll be happy to help get you scheduled!

The first day of school means summer is officially in the books, but before we close that chapter, we have a few more people to thank!

Throughout the summer, our clinic doors welcomed our great TCS Summer Interns, former students, alumni, special guests, and student volunteers who jumped right back in to lend a hand. Some came back to familiar territory, some volunteered their time on busy clinic days, a few wanted to learn about veterinary medicine and others simply stopped by to support a program they helped build!

One of our favorite parts of this program is watching students grow beyond our classroom and then seeing them come back willing to invest in the students and animals who come after them. ❤️

And now… it’s time for a new group of Cougars to take their turn!

With school beginning today, the Munford Spay Neuter Clinic will be taking a two-week break from appointments as we transition back into school mode. This time is intentional and important. Our new Veterinary Interns will be learning clinic procedures, patient handling, medical equipment, sanitation and biosecurity, workplace expectations, and most importantly, the safety protocols required to operate responsibly in a working veterinary clinic.
Real-world learning starts with learning to do the job safely and correctly.

🐾 We’ll be back soon with a new group of Veterinary Interns, another year of hands-on learning, and plenty more patients to care for. Feel free to text our call our clinic at (731)882-2286 to book an appointment starting the last week of August!

To everyone who gave their time, knowledge, and helping hands to our clinic this summer: thank you.

And to our students…

Welcome back, Cougars. Let’s get to work! ❤️🐾

⭐ STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: EVIE MACLIN

Meet Evie, an upcoming senior from Brighton High School and one of our Tipton County Schools Veterinary Clinic Summer Interns!
Evie calls Tipton Community Animal Clinic - Brighton (BHS) home, but she’s spent this summer making an impact at both of our veterinary clinics.

From the very beginning, Evie proved that you don’t have to be the loudest person in the room to make a big difference. She is quiet, observant, incredibly hardworking, and one of the most coachable students we’ve had the opportunity to mentor.
One of Evie’s greatest strengths has been learning our electronic medical record system. She quickly became proficient with patient documentation and medical records, helping keep our clinic days organized and efficient! Behind every successful clinic day is someone keeping the details straight, and Evie embraced that responsibility with confidence.

When she’s not in the clinic, Evie is involved with the Brighton FFA Chapter, where she attended Tennessee FFA Forestry Camp this summer, continuing to grow her leadership and career skills outside the classroom.

Whether she was assisting with patient care, documenting medical records, supporting surgery, or simply jumping in wherever she was needed, Evie has become an important part of our team this summer. We’re proud of how much she’s grown in such a short time and can’t wait to see what her next year has in store!
Thank you, Evie, for your dedication, positive attitude, and willingness to learn. We are so thankful you’ve been part of our clinic family this summer! ❤️🐾

⭐STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: LIBBIE LAWHON 🩺🐾

This week, we're excited to introduce one of the smiling student faces behind Munford Spay Neuter Clinic... Libbie Lawhon!

Libbie is a junior at Munford High School and has been involved in agricultural education with a focus in Animal Science since her sophomore year. Although she officially joined our hands-on veterinary clinic this past May, you would never know it. She jumped in with both feet and has quickly become an invaluable member of our team!

Libbie's home clinic is the Munford Spay Neuter Clinic, but this summer she was also selected as one of a Tipton County Board of Education Schools Vet Summer Intern, allowing her to gain experience at both MHS and BHS- Tipton Community Animal Clinic - Brighton.

Whether she's welcoming clients, assisting with patient intake, administering vaccines, communicating with staff and pet owners, or simply stepping in wherever she's needed, Libbie approaches every task with professionalism, initiative, and a genuine desire to learn. 💉😊Watching her confidence grow over the past few months has been a joy for our entire clinic team!

Outside of the clinic, Libbie serves as the Munford FFA Chapter Sentinel for the upcoming school year. She's participated in numerous FFA leadership events and competitions, including competing at the National FFA Convention on our Conduct of Chapter Meeting team. Most recently, she was became an inaugural member of the Tipton County Farm Bureau Student Leadership Committee and was selected to attend Tennessee Farm Bureau Leadership Conference in Knoxville earlier this summer.

More importantly than any title or accomplishment, Libbie is simply someone who makes our clinic better every day! She cares deeply about our patients, supports her teammates, and has become a vital part of our day-to-day operations. We truly believe she's building an incredible foundation for a future in veterinary medicine, and we can't wait to see where her journey takes her. 🫶

🐾 Summer appointments are winding down! Before we transition back into the school year, we still have a few clinic days available. If you'd like your pet to receive plenty of love and care from Libbie and the rest of our veterinary team, we'd love to see you!

Sometimes, a stack of paperwork represents 20 second chances. ♥️🐾

The Tipton County Animal Shelter responds to a wide variety of cases throughout our county. Their staff is incredibly dedicated, yet often understaffed and overworked. Recently, one of those cases involved a large hoarding situation with dozens of animals, creating a unique set of challenges.

Today, we’re celebrating a milestone! 🎉 After careful medical evaluations and treatment by our veterinary team, 20 of those dogs received a clean bill of health and are officially on their way to a rescue partner, where they’ll begin the journey toward finding loving forever homes!

We reserve approximately half of our clinic availability to care for animals from the Tipton County Animal Shelter. Shelter medicine is challenging, unpredictable, and incredibly rewarding. While the work isn’t always easy, we’re proud to partner with a team that works tirelessly to give animals in need the opportunity for a better future.

Please join us in wishing these deserving dogs safe travels and bright futures! ❤️

Thank you to the shelter staff, our licensed veterinarian, and our dedicated student interns for helping make second chances possible.

Every patient deserves one. 🐾

IS YOUR PET READY FOR AN EMERGENCY?

June is National Pet Preparedness Month!

When most people think about emergency preparedness, they think about their family, but your pets are part of the family too!

Would you quickly be able to locate:
✅ Vaccine records
✅ Medications
✅ A carrier or leash
✅ Emergency contact information
✅ Food and water supplies

Being prepared can make all the difference during severe weather, unexpected travel, or other emergencies.

One of the easiest ways to prepare is to make sure your pet is up-to-date on vaccinations, has current medical records, and is microchipped with accurate contact information.

At the Munford Spay Neuter Clinic, we’re proud to help families keep their pets healthy, safe, and prepared year-round.

🐾 Being prepared starts before an emergency happens. If your pet is due for vaccines, a wellness exam, testing, or a microchip, now is a great time to get those items checked off your preparedness list.

📅 Summer appointments are available, including a few openings next week! We have very few June availability, and our July calendar is now open for scheduling.

“Yesterday, former Tennessee Commissioner of Agriculture and congressional candidate Charlie Hatcher visited Tipton County and spent time meeting with local farmers before touring the Munford High School Agricultural Department.

During his visit, Dr. Hatcher learned more about the Munford High School Spay and Neuter Clinic, which provides students with hands-on experience for those interested in veterinary medicine and animal care careers. As a veterinarian and former Tennessee State Veterinarian, he expressed appreciation for the opportunities the program provides students.

The clinic, established during his tenure as Tennessee Commissioner of Agriculture, was the first program of its kind in Tennessee and continues to serve as an example of innovative agricultural education.

We appreciate Dr. Hatcher taking the time to visit our students, learn about the work taking place in our agricultural education program, and discuss the importance of supporting agriculture, veterinary medicine, and rural communities.

Thank you for your interest in Munford FFA and agricultural education.” - Courtesy of Munford FFA Chapter’s page
