Paxton Feline Rescue From feral to friendly, we love them all. We can't save them all but we can certainly save the ones that cross our path.

We are a small foster-based, family-oriented, cat-specific rescue that focuses on TNR and aiding local shelters with scared and feral felines. We strive to educate the community on humane alternatives to "trapping and dumping" of local wild cat populations at shelters where they routinely face euthanasia despite a shelter's efforts to help them. Through TNR and working directly with the community we hope to alleviate the pressure feral cats place on already over-populated and over-worked shelter systems and stymie the constant breeding that filters kittens into the shelter system as well.

Baby is almost at the end of her healing journey! Her eye, or lack thereof I should say, has healed pretty well. Thankfully the sutures stayed pretty tight overall and the site healed well. There's only a little bit left to dissolve though I may end up just clipping them out since the wound is fully closed at this point.

Next step: ADOPTION! 🎉🎉🎉

Baby is an exceptionally sweet girl and she is VERY affectionate. It may take her a few weeks to really open up and blossom but I promise, she is well worth the wait. Baby would do just fine with other cats in the home and I suspect would warm up to older children with ease. She has never been around dogs so I do recommend a slow introduction in that regard.

Just a few of the sweet babies that greet me out at the catio.

Catio life has changed significantly in the last year and it has been an incredibly tough year. We are officially closed to new intakes, outside of returns of previously adopted Paxton cats. I will be focusing on adoptions of the current kitties and the remaining medical needs of the sanctuary cats.

Please consider donating as funding is EXTREMELY low right now. We still owe $325 for Mochi and Baby's surgeries and still have several dentals and multiple vaccine updates to get through. We have not even been able to focus on the EC Main St colony TNR because funding is that low and unfortunately that does us no favors in a colony is that size. Today is Daddy Tricksters day at the vet. He's had an awful cold that just won't go away. He's due for updates but this cold needs to get under control first. So time for some heavy-duty antibiotics and a yearly FIV/FELV retest.

So this little one, along with her siblings, was surrendered to Currituck Animal Shelter earlier in the week. This little lady, along with one of her brothers, showed drastic balance issues upon intake. Unfortunately her brother was significantly worse and not thriving but she has a drive to survive.

Despite the significant head wobble, rear leg weakness and right-side heavy lean, she is trying her best. She has a healthy appetite and does manage to move herself around. Thankfully, she has feeling in all limbs and tail and is successfully using the restroom on her own.

This is likely severe CH but we would like to get her in for an exam just to get Dr. Hancocks thoughts. In the meantime, I am working on her balance and leg strength.

I can't save them all and maybe I can't even save this little one but I can still try.

Surgeries were a success!

The doctor agreed that if Baby's eye was starting to bother her, it was in her best interest to lose it now before any additional issues occurred. In addition to the eye, most of her teeth were extracted as well due to severe stomatitis. Im glad she got both done at the same time so she can recover all at once. Her demeanor has not changed in the least and you would not guess that she just had two major surgeries. Im so happy that she is on the road to recovery and looking forward to seeing her go up for adoption when she is all healed!

Mochi has a bit of a different story. He did get the dead eye removed as it was only causing him pain at this point but he's not nearly as thrilled about his surgery as Baby. Mochi is also EXTREMELY difficult to medicate and it's been very hard administering his pain medication. As tiny as he is, this dude turns into a full blown alligator roll when you get near his face.

So two different kitties with two very different experiences. Hopefully, they both continue to heal without incident! 🫶

Big day for two very sweet kitties!

Baby, who was born with a bad eye and genetically unhealthy teeth, is finally getting all the work done! She has been waiting SOOOO patiently for SOOOO long to finally reach adoptable status!

Although taking her eye wasnt the initial plan we had, it has steadily gotten worse in the year she has been with us. She recently started scratching it bloody and it's just painfully obvious at this point that it will cause her lifelong issues that would likely require enucleation at some point.

Mochi, also a tiny genetic disaster with his 27 toes and double eyed retinal dysplasia, has also been waiting patiently. With juvenile glaucoma in the left eye, we were hopeful he could "grow" into his eye but found out quickly that Mochi isn't a grower. 😅 He's a mini kitty in all aspects. His recent eye appointment concluded that his left eye is no longer functional and it was time to take it out. Although he hasn't grown, the eye likely has and is probably putting alot of pressure on his skull.

So today we say goodbye to two eyeballs but hopefully get two kitties feeling much better in the evening!

Mouse is the last of our landscaping litter that is looking for a home!

This little girl earned her moniker for being the runtiest runt that has ever existed! When her litter was found they all weighed in around 11-13 oz but little Mouse was only 4 OUNCES upon intake! She has maintained her reputation as a mini kitten for the last 4 months but boy does she have a big personality too make up for that tiny stature.

Foster mom describes Mouse as a Stage 5 clinger: she loves everyone she meets and will make friends with anyone in a 5 mile radius. She's a cuddler, to the point where she might climb you just to make sure you know she's there for the extra lovins! She has been raised with other cats, dogs and children!

As an itty bitty, Mouse really struggled with her gut and she nearly failed to thrive on multiple occassions. Foster mom worked her butt off (pardon the pun) to get Mouse healthy and on the right track and 99% of the time Mouse is thriving and healthy! She does occasionally get an upset tummy so it's important that she stays on the food regimen she is currently on. We suspect she may have a chicken allergy and if she eats outside of her diet, it tends to lead to diarrhea. Those days are very few and far between though.

Mouse is VERY cat social so her ideal home is with another cat or kitten! Please message us if your are interested in meeting our tiny but might Mouse!

Congratulations to sweet little sisters, Donna (DSH) and Matilda (DLH) who went home today with the sweetest family!

These girls, along with their siblings Asher and Mouse, were rescued by our star foster, Rebecca, when they were found at her workplace. She put so much work and love into this little group and they ended up being the healthiest most well-rounded kittens! Their brother Asher precedes them in adoption so little sister Mouse is the last of the group to find a home. We will do a post for her shortly.

In the meantime, happy tails sweet girls! May you thrive with your new kitty brother and bring all the joy to your new family!

WE NEED YOUR THOUGHTS!

Thanks to a transporter stepping up, we will be sending the following 2 cats up to Williamsburg on August 27th:

Baby (EC Main St colony female from last year) who is suffering from a bad eye she was born with and dental disease. She will likely cost about $500.

Mochi (polydactyl siamese) who was born with juvenile glaucoma. He recently saw the eye doctor that confirmed his left eye is no longer functional and is likely putting alot of pressure on his skull. His fee will be $250.

We do also have 2 additional enucleations that will need to be performed in the future but Mochi and Baby are priority as they are likely the most affected by their conditions at this time.

We need to raise $750 to cover these appts. We are looking at doing either a 50/50 raffle or an auction of a few items. Additionally, you can also donate at any time via our platforms below.

TRANSPORATION REQUEST: 2 CATS NEEDING ENUCLEATIONS

Hello friends and followers! I have an appt in Williamsburg on August 27th for two kitties that need eye removals - one with juvenile glaucoma and another with an eye infection that went south. THEY HAVE TO GET UP THERE.

Ellie is officially in school so I am unable to do morning transport. I need at minimum someone to do AM drop-off, preferably also a PM pick-up! Does not have to be the same person.

August 27

AM P/U in Moyock, NC and transport to Williamsburg Vet Clinic (williamsburg, va) by no later than 11am

PM P/U from Williamsburg Vet Clinic (Williamsburg, va) no later than 530pm and deliver to rescue headquarters in Moyock, NC
