📚Don't miss a special Juneteenth program at the park by Dr. Latif Tarik, an Associate Professor of History at Elizabeth City State University, who will speak about marronage and the use of the Dismal Swamp as a refuge for freedom seekers.

🥾Following the presentation, join a park ranger on a guided boardwalk hike at 11:00 AM to learn more about the park's unique natural environment.

Museum of the Albemarle will host a free public program to introduce its new interactive family exhibit.

The museum, part of the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, will debut Discover Colonial Life on Wednesday, June 17. To celebrate the opening, the museum will host living history demonstrations, colonial historians, and hands-on activities from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. that same day at the museum, located at 501 S. Water Street in Elizabeth City. A petting zoo will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and there will be a special musical performance by the Fifes and Drums of York Town at noon. Preregistration is required for groups of 10 or more.

Discover Colonial Life explores life in northeastern North Carolina during the American Revolution. It is part of DNCR’s America 250 NC initiative, commemorating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The exhibit will remain on-site thorough Feb. 5, 2028, and is open to the public during regular museum hours: Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., staff permitting. The program and the exhibit are free.

📢🚑6th Annual Donkey Derby is coming up on July 17th🚒

Dear Community Member,

The 6th Annual Donkey Derby is coming up on July 17th! This is an important year for the Derby—not only is it our nation's 250th birthday, but the event is also one of our most important fundraisers, and thanks to the support of this community, we are scheduled to receive a new tanker truck.

Sponsorships are available starting at $100. Donations of $500 or more will receive recognition on our event banner and a special 250th Anniversary Donkey Derby flag.
