Lamplighter Ministries A non-profit ministry dedicated to "making ready a people prepared for the Lord, by building Christ-like character...one story at a time.

Lamplighter Store & Bookbindery 8:30am - 6pm M-F Lamplighter stories are much more than good and wholesome reading. The character traits children assimilate during their formative years are the foundation from which a life of faith in God is built. Inspiring role models found in Lamplighter books demonstrate that outward compliance alone will not carry a child through the stresses and disappointments soon to be faced in adolescence and adulthood. Perseverance, courage, hope, loyalty, humility—these are the qualities to emulate, these are the traits to pursue. Though life isn’t always fair, we can be confident that each disappointment and trial is designed by a
loving God for our good. Lamplighter books are edited within a Biblical theological framework to ensure that each story reflects the character of God and provides key Scriptures to be stored within the heart. The uniqueness of a Lamplighter book in contrast to other books with the same title is that they have been enhanced with helpful footnotes and woven with threads of Biblical truths that will be etched into an awakened moral conscience. These characteristics are what make our Lamplighter Collection so unique and highly valued.

Our bindery has been working hard to fill bookshelves with life-transforming literature. In this hands-on book-making process, there are always a few books that don’t quite meet the Lamplighter standard of excellence. We still want these books put to good use, so help us clear out our Scratch & Dent shelves with the last damaged sale of the year!

“But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.” ~2 PETER 1:5-8

Training up our children in godly character does not happen without much effort, intentionality, prayer, and a continual “adding to our faith.” It is our mission to help families accomplish this goal by renewing children’s minds through the stories they read and listen to. With every scripture heard, every tale of triumph over evil, every character that overcomes temptation, God’s truth is penetrating hearts and minds with truth that will inspire them to bear eternal fruit.

Turn the page on a SCREEN-FREE semester [+Read to the bottom for our Back to School sale!]

“Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.” ~1 JOHN 2:15-17

One of the obstacles to education and training children in godliness is the screens that we have allowed to surround us. Smartphones, tablets, and social media platforms have built-in addictive properties that keep people—both young children and parents—distracted from what really matters, and have the dangerous potential to fill young minds with destructive imagery and worldviews.

This semester, we encourage you to go screen-free during school days and see the difference it can make in you and your children’s lives! But you can’t just tuck away the devices without giving children (and yourself) a proper and better substitute. This is where stories enter the picture. Books, real physical, paper and ink books, can be a great first step in renewing children’s minds from the damaging effects of media. Find stories with excitement, adventure, truth, good overcoming evil, and characters to emulate, and see the difference reading can make!

Introducing our newest addition to the Lamplighter Collection, The Knight's Charge (Book one in The Charge Trilogy)!

⚔️ “…Then I got down upon my knees and spoke to my King. And I asked Him to make me, through thick and thin, even if I had to suffer, a faithful ready servant of His, and to let me glory in it. And I really meant it.” Excerpt from The Knight’s Charge ⚔️

About the Story:
The Marjoribanks children have set their hearts on one great ambition—to own a donkey. What begins as a seemingly innocent desire soon becomes a lesson in perseverance, industry, and trust in God. Determined to earn the money themselves, each child embarks on an entrepreneurial adventure of their own. Yet as they pursue their goal, they discover that the greatest treasures are not measured in coins but in the lessons learned along the way.

Each child faces a different challenge. Grisel must learn that good intentions are not enough without wisdom and obedience. Denys discovers that opportunities to serve often appear in unexpected places. Lynette learns that impulsive actions can carry painful consequences, while Aylwin finds that faithful labor is seldom wasted. And little Puff, with his simple childlike faith, demonstrates that God delights in answering the prayers of those who trust Him completely.

Through humorous mishaps, narrow escapes, unexpected friendships, and countless opportunities for growth, Amy Le Feuvre gently reminds us that God is more concerned with who we are becoming than with what we are obtaining.

Character Themes: Trustworthiness, Loyalty, Obedience
Best for ages: 6+

Starting a new school year can be an exciting adventure, but also a time of new fears, challenges, and unknowns for both you and your children. So what are some ways you can prepare hearts and minds (including your own) to face the coming school year with excitement, purpose, and joy?

Here are a few things that might be fun to try as you prepare to get back to school!

📘 Go school supply shopping as a family. Give each child a list and a budget, giving them the independence to pick out and purchase the needed supplies themselves.

📚 Gift a new book. Gift an exciting non-fiction story, one of your childhood favorites, a reading journal, or a book about a subject that interests your child with a handwritten note inside to encourage a continued love for reading amidst all the textbooks.

📖 Have each child pick a theme verse. Help your child pick a scripture passage or verse to read every day and memorize during the school year. You can even print the verse out on paper and have them decorate it and hang it on the wall where they will see it everyday.

📝 Make a goals list together. Make time to meet and make a list with each child: What areas do they want to grow in this coming semester? What would they like to accomplish? What character traits do they want God to help them develop? Who or where do they want to serve (church, a nursing home, neighbors)? Write these goals down and set aside a time later in the semester to follow-up on their goals.

Last week concluded our 16th annual Summer Guild event, and what a beautiful week it was! Eighty students came together with teachers and staff to live out this year’s theme, The Making of a Masterpiece, through classes, fellowship, worship, meals shared together, creative performances, morning devotions, and prayer. It was truly (and our staff can attest to this) one of the best Guilds we have ever hosted, and we praise the Lord for His working in each of our lives this last week!

As we continue celebrating America’s 250th anniversary, we’re taking advice from the founding fathers on what kinds of books we should read. In a letter to his nephew, Bushrod, George Washington provided thoughtful counsel regarding the kinds of friendships he should cultivate.

“Be courteous to all, but intimate with few, and let those few be well tried before you give them your confidence—true friendship is a plant of slow growth, and must undergo & withstand the shocks of adversity before it is entitled to the appellation.”

We would say that this applies to choosing your books as well! Here at Lamplighter, we are careful in selecting which stories to add to our family collection of rare books. Each title must demonstrate a biblical worldview centered around four truths:

1. God is good.
2. God works all things together for good.
3. God keeps His promises.
4. God allows suffering to grow our character so we can experience His love.

So, choose your books wisely this summer, and let the reading began!
