“The testimonies of the Lord are sure, making wise the simple” says the Psalmist in Psalm 19. As the Lord gives testimonies, we just can’t help but share them with the hope that, like in Psalm 19, they will make wise the simple. We invite you to join us in rejoicing with our fellow believers in the work God is doing in their lives through the powerful stories he has given us!

"I'm a teenager who quite recently learned about Lamplighter and a bit recently read 'Stepping Heavenward' by Elizabeth Prentiss. It was my second run-through, and I had researched more about the book and the author since the first time I read it; one thing I learned was that Mrs. Prentiss was also a hymn-writer and wrote the well-known hymn 'More Love to Thee, O Christ.' I kept that in mind as I read it this second time and saw that theme throughout. She writes at one point in the book, 'if God should...offer to give just one thing... I should say without hesitation, Love to Thee, O my Master!'...

Psalm 16:11 says, 'In thy presence is fulness of joy.' I wondered why I never felt this fulness of joy as I prayed. What connected the dots was realizing that even David prayed for joy in the Lord; he writes, 'Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation,' in Psalm 51. If David prayed for joy, I decided I would too; and 'more joy, more love to Thee, O Christ,' became my daily prayer.

It helped me immediately. Within a week I was praying more and doing it with love, not out of a sense of duty. I am still praying and growing, realizing that even the little things like doing chores can be done for Christ. I've learned through 'Stepping Heavenward' that because I LOVE God, I WANT to serve Him more!

So of course I told all my friends about the book and what I learned from it. Some of them then read it, and they loved it too. I have shared some of the Lamplighter audio dramas with them, and one told me, 'It's helping me realize some things I would just dismiss out of my mind. It's replacing lies with truth.' Lamplighter is amazing and teaches truths that can help ALL ages!"

Keep reading for a special Mother's Day deal!

If you’re a mother who loves the Lord, then it is probably your greatest desire to see your children come to faith in Jesus and live holy lives before God. But this is no easy task. Whether you live on a farm in the middle of nowhere, or in a bustling city suburb, it’s next to impossible to shield your children from the evil influences and unbelief of the world. But—you can shield them in one way—by feeding their minds with the pure milk of the Word. Then, as you and they grow in your desire and intake of the word, together you’ll “be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God” (Romans 12:2).

To the Mom who doesn’t have time to read…
As book publishers, we often come across mothers who are eager for their children to learn to love reading, yet many of them do not have (or make) the time for reading themselves. What a storehouse of wisdom and encouragement they are missing out on! But with so many responsibilities, unexpected happenings, demands and distractions, where does a mother even begin?

If you are a busy mom who wants to get into reading again, here are some ways you can start making reading a part of your everyday life:

1. Read-Alouds
We can’t encourage this enough! Not only do read-alouds create lasting memories and enjoyment for your children, but it allows you to ask questions about the story that lead to unforgettable conversations. You can even let older children take turns reading.

2. Listening to Audiobooks
Whether it’s 10 minutes in the shower, your drive to music lessons, or getting ready in the morning, you can squeeze in some “reading time” through listening to audiobooks while completing your everyday responsibilities.

3. Reading Before Bed
Try to get into the habit of keeping your phone in another room at night, and instead, placing a stack of 2 or 3 books on your nightstand. Then, when you have a few minutes to wind down, grab a book instead of a time-stealing device!

Mothers have a unique role that no one else can fill. Not only is she a caretaker, comforter, cook, chauffeur, and confidante—she is also to be the primary teacher of her children (as outlined in Proverbs 1:8-9)—but this position comes with diligent effort and wisdom. In order to teach well, a mother must know the Word of God and she must live it out. But with all her other responsibilities, how can a mother who wishes to be godly make the time to fulfill this position well?

One of Jesus’ primary ways of communicating truth was through stories, and we believe this is one of the best ways a mother can instill truth into her children’s hearts and minds (as well as her own).
