The years before middle school and early adolescence are some of the most important for prevention.

Kids are learning how to make decisions, handle pressure, and figure out who they want to be.

The good news? You don't need a perfect speech.

Simple conversations like:
💬 "What would you do if someone offered you a v**e?"
💬 "Do kids ever feel pressure to fit in?"
💬 "Who can you talk to if something doesn't feel right?"

can help prepare kids long before they're faced with real situations.

Summer is full of little moments that help build big connections.

A walk around the block. Watering flowers. Sharing a snack. Talking about the best part of the day.

For young children, prevention starts with trust. When kids know they can come to the adults in their lives with questions, worries, or mistakes, they're building a foundation that will last for years to come.

This week, try asking:
💬 "What made you smile today?"

School may be ending, but connection still matters all summer long.

For many young people, summer brings freedom, fun, and opportunity. But it can also bring boredom, isolation, disrupted routines, and disconnection.

That’s why this month we’re focusing on a simple but powerful idea:
Summer of Connection ☀️

Connection to:
• friends
• family
• supportive adults
• activities
• community
• purpose and belonging

Because strong relationships are one of the biggest protective factors we can offer young people.

And sometimes the best summer memories start with someone simply making space for connection.

You can tell it’s the end of the school year because suddenly every kid has:
• a “huge project” due tomorrow
• 14 missing assignments nobody knew about
• a missing Chromebook charger
• and absolutely no idea where their hoodie went 😅

Honestly, this time of year is chaos for a lot of families.

As everyone shifts into summer mode, it’s a good reminder that structure, connection, and simply knowing where your kids are and who they’re with still matter.

Young people are facing stress, anxiety, loneliness, substance use challenges, and emotional pressure at younger ages than many adults realize.

One of the most powerful things we can do as a community is make sure the adults around them feel confident recognizing warning signs, responding supportively, and connecting youth to help when needed.

Youth Mental Health First Aid gives adults practical tools to better support young people, not by becoming counselors, but by becoming more prepared, informed, and confident helpers.

If you work with youth, care about youth, or simply want to better understand what young people are navigating today, this is an incredibly valuable training opportunity. 💙

Mental health isn’t just about crisis or struggle, it’s also about helping young people feel connected, supported, capable, and valued in everyday life.

As parents and caregivers, some of the biggest protective factors are often the simplest things:
• feeling safe talking about emotions
• having routines and stability
• being encouraged after mistakes
• spending time together
• knowing someone is there when life gets hard

You don’t have to be a perfect parent to positively impact your child’s mental health.

Consistent support, connection, and showing up over time matter more than most people realize. 💙

Loneliness is part of being human.

At some point, everyone experiences the feeling of being disconnected, unseen, or alone. But when people go too long without meaningful support, connection, or a sense of belonging, that loneliness can begin to affect both mental and physical health.

That’s why connection matters so much.

If you or someone you know is struggling with loneliness, hopelessness, emotional distress, or mental health challenges, support is available. Call or text 988 to connect with the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline 24/7.

No one is meant to carry everything alone. 💙

You know loneliness. We all do. This week is . Let's start talking about it. www.only7seconds.com
