On National Photography Day, this photo in the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute museum on Petit Jean Mountain seemed especially fitting.

Governor Winthrop Rockefeller shares a quiet moment with his young son, Win Paul Rockefeller.

While history often remembers leaders for their public accomplishments, photos like this remind us of the personal side of those legacies—a father passing along a love for Arkansas, a sense of wonder, and perhaps an appreciation for seeing the world through a different lens.

The museum at the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute is filled with photographs and stories like this one, offering a glimpse into the people behind the history and the family's deep connection to Petit Jean Mountain.

Sometimes the most meaningful stories aren't found in speeches or headlines, but in simple moments between a father and son.

in 1967 🐮 "The Biggest Social Event in Arkansas: The Winthrop Rockefellers' Cattle Sale"

By Friday afternoon, the houseguest list had grown to 40, the dinner list to 200, and there was an orchestra for dancing in a big frame building the Rockefellers call "our playhouse." (Guests who didn't want to dance could have gone to the recreation building, with its squash court, four bowling alleys and pinball machine, but nobody did.) By Saturday, the day of the sale, the barbecue, and another dinner and dance, Mrs. Rockefeller had stopped counting. "We feed two or three thousand at the barbecue," she said. "It's like running a hotel."
