A HUGE shout out and THANK YOU to Art Reed for scraping Montvale Rescue’s parking lot! We can finally get our ambulances out! And if we could get VDOT to scrap the roads in the village would be great as well!

Looking for someone to please come and scrap the front of our building it has not been scraped or touched and it is a solid sheet of ice. Very difficult for us to even get in and get an ambulance out

❄️ WINTER STORM PREPARATION – BEDFORD COUNTY ❄️

A significant winter storm is expected to impact the region this weekend, bringing snow, ice, and dangerously cold temperatures. Residents are encouraged to prepare now and review the information below.

⚡ POWER OUTAGE REPORTING
Do NOT call 911 or non-emergency dispatch to report power outages. Keeping emergency lines open is critical during severe weather.

Report outages directly to your power provider:
- Appalachian Power: 1-800-956-4237 | www.appalachianpower.com
- Southside Electric Cooperative: 1-866-878-5514 | www.sec.coop
- Bedford Electric Department: 540-258-4057 | www.bedfordpoweroutage.com

🚨 WHEN TO CALL 911
Call 911 immediately for:
- Downed power lines or electrical hazards
- Fires or other life-threatening emergencies

For non-emergency calls (minor accidents with no injuries, general information), contact the Bedford 911 Center at 540-586-7827. Hazardous weather may cause longer response times for police, EMS, and tow trucks for minor incidents.

🌳 ROAD CONDITIONS & DOWNED TREES
- Bedford County roads: VDOT, 1-800-FOR-ROAD (367-7623)
- Town of Bedford roads: Bedford Public Works, 540-587-6081

🔥 WARMING SHELTERS
- SJC Warming Shelter (112 Center St., Bedford)
Open Friday–Monday nights, 7 p.m. – 7 a.m., extended hours possible pending staffing

- Palestine Baptist Church (9244 Smith Mountain Lake Pkwy, Huddleston)
Planning to open Monday morning unless needed earlier

- Eastlake Community Church (1201 Timberwood Ln., Moneta)
On standby to open if needed

Call 211 for the latest warming shelter information.

🚛 WASTE MANAGEMENT OPERATIONS
The storm may impact operating hours at the landfill and convenience centers. Check www.bedfordcountyva.gov before traveling. Weather may cause downed trees or electrical/mechanical issues at facilities

⏱️ EMS RESPONSE TIMES
Ice and hazardous road conditions may result in delayed EMS response times as crews navigate unsafe conditions.

We want to join the many voices telling you and your loved ones to stay off the roads as this winter storm moves in.

DO NOT TRAVEL.

Traveling during dangerous conditions puts not only your life at risk, but also the lives of first responders, road crews, and volunteers who may be called out to help.
