DLI’s philosophy is based upon the sanctity of human life, the promotion of free market principles, and limited government.

The Douglass Leadership Institute (DLI) is a national education and public policy 501(c)(3) organization with representatives and groups across the United States. Founded in 2015, DLI is the brainchild of Dean Nelson, a minister and veteran political and pro-life leader. Through Dean’s years of working with African American churches and advocacy for biblical worldview in the marketplace, it became clear that there was a need to bridge the gap between African American faith-based institutions, civil government and the civic world. Thus, DLI was created to develop a network of faith-based leaders across the nation and provide them with uniquely tailored programs, information and social networking that will engage, equip and empower men and women of faith. So that men and women of faith need to not only take positions of leadership and prominence in our cities and businesses but to also come equipped with biblical worldview values to shape and influence policy in our nation.

One of DLI’s core pillars is Criminal Justice Reform, and as part of this mission, we are holding a Criminal Justice Symposium on Saturday, September 12, 2026, in Alpharetta, GA. This symposium aims to educate and engage the local community—particularly African-American and Hispanic residents—on how to understand and effectively navigate the criminal justice system. The event will provide a platform for participants to hear directly from key gatekeepers in the system and gain insight into the roles, challenges, and opportunities within criminal justice institutions. The Douglass Leadership Institute is committed to empowering communities through education, advocacy, and reform.

Happy Fourth of July!

On July 4, 1776, 250 years ago, our Founding Fathers sacrificed their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor to create a new country—the United States of America.

The Declaration of Independence fittingly states, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable Rights, that among them are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

More important than our physical freedom, is our spiritual freedom. We are born chained by sin, but the blood of Christ can set us free. If we believe in him, his death, and his resurrection, we too can accept his gift of salvation, and be proclaimed a child of God.

We had an amazing time at this year’s Juneteenth Jubilee in Tysons, Va. on June 19. Here are some photos from the days event. DLI’s Director of Ministry Engagement, Apostle Arnold Culbreath, was the MC for our event. The Honorable Kenneth Blackwell gave an incredible message as our keynote speaker. We also awarded Lt Gov Winsome Sears with DLI’s Frederick Douglass Award.

DLI’s first major event of the year is in the books. Keep an eye out for information on our Annual Conference in November.

The word Father is mentioned almost 1700 times in the Bible.

This action explicitly signals that fatherhood is vitally important in God’s eyes. And, it tells us that God’s word is a Biblical blueprint outlining his purpose for fathers — to lead his household spiritually and direct them toward faith in Christ, discipline with love, model faithful obedience to God and demonstrate the incredible power of prayer.
