October Is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

This month, the City of Montclair joins communities across the country in raising awareness about breast cancer and honoring those affected by it: survivors, those currently in treatment, and the families and friends who support them.

About 1 in 8 women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, and men can develop it too. Early detection makes a real difference, so we encourage residents to:

💗 Talk with your doctor about when to start regular screenings
💗 Know what’s normal for your body and report any changes
💗 Remind the people you love to schedule their checkups

🌧️ Sandbags Available for Montclair Residents

With storms on the way, the City of Montclair has sandbags available to help residents protect their homes.

After hours and this weekend: A self-serve sandbag station is set up outside the City Yard gate, behind Fire Station 2. Montclair residents can stop by and fill their own bags while the yard is closed.

During business hours: Filled sandbags are available for pickup at the City Yard,
Monday – Thursday, 6:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Boo! You’re invited to a spook‑tacular night — come dressed to impress and have a fang‑tastic time! The City of Montclair Halloween Spooktacular is coming back, and you won’t want to miss it! Mark your calendars now for a night of family fun.

Event Details
• 📆 Date: Saturday, October 24, 2026
• ⏰ Time: 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
• 📍 Location: Montclair Place (5060 E Montclair Plaza Ln., Montclair, CA 91763)

What to Expect
• 🍬 Trick-or-Treating: Bring your own bag to collect candy inside Montclair Place and at participating tenants (while supplies last)!
• 🧟 Costume Contest: Show off your best look! The contest kicks off at 6:30 p.m. on the Main Stage for ages 0–6 and 7–12 (categories include Scariest, Most Unique, Cutest, and Best in Family).
• 🦇 Activities: Check out the Halloween Maze, Haunted Trackless Train Ride, Neon Game Room, Carnival-Style Games, Craft Stations, Selfie spots, and a Live DJ!

October Is Filipino American History Month

The City of Montclair joins in honoring the history, culture, and countless contributions of Filipino Americans to our community and our nation.

October was chosen to commemorate the first recorded landing of Filipinos in what is now the United States, at Morro Bay, California, on October 18, 1587. The month was first celebrated in 1988 by the Filipino American National Historical Society and was formally recognized by Congress in 2009.

Mabuhay! We celebrate the Filipino American families, businesses, and leaders who help make Montclair home. 💙❤️💛

🏳️‍🌈 October Is LGBTQ+ History Month 🏳️‍🌈

The City of Montclair recognizes October as LGBTQ+ History Month, a time to learn about, honor, and celebrate the history and contributions of the LGBTQ+ community.

LGBTQ+ History Month was created in 1994 by high school teacher Rodney Wilson. October was chosen because schools are in session and because it includes National Coming Out Day on October 11.

The month focuses on education, celebrating the achievements of historical figures, and raising awareness about the history of the LGBTQ+ rights movement.

This October, we invite our community to learn, reflect, and celebrate the stories that have shaped our nation. 💜

Thank you to everyone who joined us at Montclair Place for our Hispanic Heritage celebration! We loved coming together to honor and celebrate Hispanic culture through music, dance, art, and community. 🎶💃

A special thank you to our amazing Montclair Afterschool Program (MAP) students from Kingsley, Monte Vista, and Vernon Middle School for sharing their talents, creativity, and enthusiasm with our community. From traditional folklórico dances to handmade felt sarapes and egg-shaker maracas, you made the celebration extra special! 🎨🪇💐

📜 History of Montclair 📜

In April 1956, residents of the Monte Vista Land Tract voted to incorporate as an independent city. Just weeks later, on May 8, 1956, the very first City Council meeting was held, marking the official start of our story.

This year, Montclair proudly celebrates 70 years of cityhood! From rows of orange groves to the thriving Inland Empire community we know today, our city has come a long way, and it's all thanks to the generations of residents who've called Montclair home. 💙

Here's to the next 70 years! 🎉
