🚨 Montclair is in CRISIS — and our community is paying the price.

At last night’s City Council meeting, the Montclair Professional Firefighters delivered a sobering truth: WE ARE LOSING HALF OUR FIREFIGHTERS TO NEIGHBORING AGENCIES IN 30 DAYS.

This isn’t just staffing numbers. It’s public safety on the line.

Our department is now critically understaffed. Our firefighters are forced into dangerous extended shifts just to keep serving our city.

And when the next emergency hits… Montclair will have to rely on outside agencies to run OUR calls in OUR city.

That is unacceptable.

Our firefighters signed up to protect this community — not to watch it become dependent on someone else’s help while they burn out.

Montclair deserves better. Our residents deserve faster response times, fully staffed engines, and firefighters who aren’t stretched to the breaking point.

Support our firefighters. Demand immediate action from City Council.

Tag your council members. Share this. Speak up.

PUBLIC SAFETY IS NOT OPTIONAL.

・・・
It is with broken hearts that the Rancho Cucamonga Fire District shares news of the passing of one of our own, Fire Engineer Miguel Cervantes. Beginning July 2022, Miguel fought a courageous battle against work-related non-Hodgkin’s Follicular Lymphoma (NHL), a cancer of the lymphatic system. Since his diagnosis and throughout his treatment, Miguel continued to display resiliency, optimism, and gratitude. Miguel was a beacon of light who leaves behind a lasting legacy within the Rancho Cucamonga Fire District.

Miguel started in the fire service as a Volunteer Firefighter with Riverside County Fire Department. In 2000 he was hired as an Apprentice Firefighter with Norco Fire Department, later promoting to Firefighter and Fire Engineer. In March 2006, Miguel began a new chapter with the Rancho Cucamonga Fire District as a Firefighter and was subsequently promoted to Fire Engineer in January 2011. During his 17 years of service with the Rancho Cucamonga Fire District, Miguel was an active member of the Honor Guard, Technical Rescue Team, Fire Academy Instructor, Regional FEMA USAR Team, Peer Support Member, Paramedic, and Executive Board Vice President of the Rancho Cucamonga Firefighters’ Association.

Miguel was a loving and devoted husband, father, son, and brother. He leaves behind his wife of 17 years, Cylina, and their three children. The Rancho Cucamonga Fire District shares their condolences and unwavering support for the Cervantes Family.

Miguel possessed the gift of effortlessly making those around him feel comforted, understood, and valued. These qualities made him an exceptional firefighter. He treated every patient as if they were his loved ones he was responding to. His smile was contagious in the firehouse, and his passion for his career was evident. The Rancho Cucamonga Fire District is committed to honoring Miguel’s legacy by serving the community as he did.

Information on Miguel’s funeral services will be forthcoming.

Please join us in thanking Engineer Robert Estrada for six years of selfless service to the City of Montclair.

Engineer Estrada has accepted and began employment in a neighboring department and takes with him years of invaluable knowledge and experience.

In his time with the Montclair Professional Firefighters, Bobby was our Association Treasurer, then Association Vice President, then our Association President, a member of our department’s Urban Search and Rescue Team, our department’s West End QA/QI rep, a paramedic field preceptor, MFD’s EMS committee chairman, and an AHA ACLS and BLS instructor.

Bobby was a valued member of our membership and we wish nothing but love and success in his future with his new agency.

Recruitment and retention of qualified individuals is a true challenge for our membership and ultimately affects the citizens of Montclair more than anyone else. We currently have multiple members in hiring processes with other departments. In recent years, including Engineer Estrada, Montclair Professional Firefighters, which represents 18 positions, have lost 31 members to outside agencies with 150 years and 5 months of collective experience. These statistics do not include retirements or any promotions to management positions.

Engineer Estrada, good luck on your future endeavors and thank you for your years of service.

Yesterday, Montclair firefighters on OES331 returned home after being assigned to the .

Our firefighters were assigned to Strike Team 6820A and were originally formed as an OES pre-position resource. While staging, the Fairview Fire broke out, and ST 6820A was assigned to the incident. Our firefighters worked tirelessly alongside other agencies to protect the public and the environment over the past two weeks.

According to our guys, one of the highlights of their assignment was getting to meet a few locals and put some smiles on some faces.
