Monroe Rural Volunteer Department Our Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service is a dedicated team of community-minded individuals committed to protecting lives and property.

Operating 24/7, we respond to emergencies, including fires, medical incidents, vehicle accidents, and natural disasters.

Our department is once again deploying a unit to provide assistance to our western neighbors in need, and we appreciate the community's ongoing support, while requesting prayers for the team's safety as they selflessly respond to the call for aid.

Our team is at it again. Yesterday we provided critical support to Columbus Fire for a structure fire and today a group is joining the Mid-Nebraska Task Force by responding to the Asby/Hyannis Fire.

Nebraska currently has a burn ban in effect for central and western regions, extending a previous statewide ban due to dry conditions and wildfire risk. The ban is in effect until midnight on May 10, 2025. Burning is prohibited west of Highway 81 from the South Dakota border to south of Columbus, and west of Highway 281 from the St. Paul area to the Kansas border.

Burn permits will not be issued at this time. Please exercise caution and remain aware of activities that could inadvertently start fires.
