Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia (HHT) is an inherited disease that affects over 1 million people worldwide. It is caused by defective blood vessels in the brain, lungs, liver, nose, skin, and intestines, and typically begins with nosebleeds during childhood. HHT is highly treatable but can result in serious health problems if not promptly diagnosed and treated.

This June, Cure HHT is proud to recognize HHT Awareness Month with a campaign centered on one powerful idea: If we stand together, HHT’s visibility cannot be ignored. Progress happens when the entire community – patients, caregivers, clinicians, researchers, donors, and advocates – work together to make HHT harder to miss and impossible to ignore. We've made it simple to participate with our Awareness Month resources.

For people with HHT, blood donation is an important part of both life-saving care and groundbreaking research. Because HHT is often characterized by bleeding, blood transfusions can be an essential part of treatment. Blood donations are also critical to projects like the Cure HHT Biobank, which collects blood and tissue samples to drive the development of new therapies and methods of care.

Did you know that approximately 1 in 5 adults provide care to a loved one, and over 60% of these caregivers report symptoms of burnout? We created a new resource to help you remember to R.E.S.T.

Dr. Conrad cares for patients who often arrive with complicated histories, unanswered questions, and years of experience navigating a healthcare system that was not built for rare diseases.

“The antidote to being alone and alienated in a healthcare system,” Dr. Conrad said, "is to be recognized as part of a group."

That recognition is central to Cure HHT’s work. It brings patients together, but it also brings providers, researchers, and advocates together. It creates a shared language. It improves education. It helps move HHT from something hidden and misunderstood into something visible, studied, and treated with the seriousness it deserves.
