We had a fantastic night celebrating 13 years of incredible cross-sector accomplishments of behalf of the community and state from Montgomery Moving Forward, and then the launch of the new Maryland Early Care and Education Coalition! Thank you to all of our speakers, distinguished guests, and everyone who made the night possible. Congratulations Sharon Friedman on leaving an indelible mark on Montgomery County and Maryland. Thank you Maryland Health Connection, WorkSource Montgomery, and Kaplan Early Learning Company for your generous support of the evening, with a particular thanks to Holy Cross Health, Maryland for graciously allowing us the use of your beautiful facility.

We are pleased to announce the new Maryland Early Care and Education Coalition (MECEC)! C-Impact is the backbone organization joined by 11 other key early care and education (ECE) advocacy and implementation system-thinkers comprising the inaugural Leadership Group.

MECEC is rooted in the cross-sector, collective impact ethos of Montgomery Moving Forward (MMF) which began with a countywide focus that grew into a statewide mission to address Maryland's ECE workforce crisis. As the successor to MMF's legacy, MECEC is honored to carry this work forward with four strategic objectives:

1. Promote collaboration over competition
2. Strengthen advocacy and implementation via alignment
3. Advance initiatives identified to create systemic change
4. Build a consensus vision reflective of all stakeholders defining an impactful early childhood system in Maryland.

MECEC begins with a focus on advancing the Call to Action recommendations published by MMF of implementing a birth-5 career lattice in Maryland; establishing a statewide ECE Workforce Registry; and promoting broader policy and workforce strategies that highlight effective and sustained ECE infrastructure as an economic imperative. We hope you will help us ensure we are collectively building an ECE system that meets the needs of children and families, not the other way around. Together we will uplift a system that realizes the social and economic benefits of a strong ECE system – one that prepares children for success; enables families to work; and drives our economy forward - and grows with us like the strongest trees.

Happy National Provider Appreciation Day!

Our early care and learning educators are creating lifetimes of success for children birth through five in family child care, centers, Early & Head Start programs, and PreK classrooms around the world.

Often unsung heroes, these professionals are many times underpaid, non-benefitted, and overlooked, despite research being crystal clear- the early years matter! Children who experience high quality, safe, nurturing, and engaging environments with positive interactions and playful learning experiences thrive. They have better long term academic, economic, health, behavioral, and social-emotional outcomes. Our societies have better economies when we have a strong child care infrastructure, as more parents are able to work, and businesses can attract and retain talent, let alone growing the workforce for the future.

So, say thank you to every early educator in your life. It's not day care. It's not babysitting. From infancy on- children learn from everything around them- and these professionals provide care and learning that set a foundation of lifelong healthy development and education.
